Blogs Used To Boost Google Page Rank of Porn Sites

An article in Wired says that porn sites are using Google's Blogger.com service to boost the page rank of their porn sites.

Wired quotes John d'Addario, the editor of Gawker Media's porn-themed gossip blog Fleshbot as saying, "It's the latest sleazy porn marketing scheme," said . "It's clever. You have to give them that. And it's another example of porn folk being sort of ahead of the curve when it comes to technology and marketing."

Note: Please post your comments on page rank blog tactics in our WebProWorld forum post on this topic.

Cameron Marlow, the creator of Blogdex, stated in the article, "In this day and age, it's all about subtle manipulation of page rank," said , a service that offers real-time rankings of the sites most talked about in the blogosphere. "I think that what they try and do is create artificial pockets of page rank so that they can push that page rank arbitrarily wherever they want."

"Porn site operators are finally getting savvy to the power of weblogs," d'Addario said. "Blogspot (blogs) are the easiest to set up. You can set one up in a couple of minutes. You can just make all these (blogs) and make them all cross-link to each other. It all comes into trying to finesse the Google rankings."

d'Addario went on to say, "Just because it's porn," he said, "doesn't mean it's sneaky or underhanded."
