Google's purchase of Picasa, a company that offers digital photography software, has caused a web traffic to the site to increase by a stunning 6000%. Shortly after the announcement of the purchase was made, Google began featuring a link that directed visitors to Picasa's download page.
According to Hitwise, a noted online performance measuring company, Picasa increased its rank among ALL sites from 16,300 on July 9th to 313 on July 16th. Also occurring on the 16th, Picasa was the second most visited site in Hitwise's photography category, ahead of notables like Jessops, Kodak, and Canon.
These eye opening numbers go a long way in demonstrating the power of Google. The sheer number of visitors to the search engine is what obviously generated this ranking explosion for Picasa. It makes one wonder how much the PPC would be to be listed on Google's homepage
