Yahoo Japan Drops Google From Search And Switches Ad Format To Overture

Yahoo's cleansing continues. The internet's most popular portal is keeping its focus on improving its search engine capabilities and keyword advertising. Earlier this year, Yahoo dropped Google from its US search engine in favor of their own algorithm, and it looks like the purge is continuing.

Yahoo announced on May 31st that they would be dropping Google from the Japanese version of their portal. Yahoo's search algorithm will be replacing Google's on Yahoo Japan.
As the two companies entrench themselves for their own search engine battle royale, expect Yahoo to continue their Google purge from whatever regional searches are powered by their chief competitor.

Not only is Yahoo Japan dropping Google from their search engine, starting yesterday, the Japanese portal began having all of its SERP ads served by Overture.

SearchEngineJournal reports that previously, Yahoo Japan search results featured ads served by other search companies, with Overture ads mixed. Now Yahoo Japan will be Overture only.
