Lushe Allows Google Search Of Favorite Websites
A new Google hack appearing at Lushe.net allows users to designate a favorites list and have Google search only the sites within the list. Glen Murphy, a web developer who has completed a number of successful web experiments, created the hack.
Lushe works by adding the bookmarklet to your links toolbar. You can drag it or right click and add it to your favorites. Once this is done, you can add sites to the Lushe bookmarklet (a "favorites" list) and search only the sites in the list by using Google search.
When keywords are searched using Lushe, users are redirected to a Google SERP. Lushe "makes" Google search only those sites listed in the favorites list.
Murphy tested Lushe for compatibility purposes on IE5.5+ and Mozilla. According to the about page, "MacIE5 works with the exception of the 'close window' function, (while) Safari is currently untested. There are several features such as list management and separate profiles currently missing."
Having tested the application out using Fark.com as a favorite, I discovered that Lushe works as advertised. Furthermore, Lushe can used to search internet forums, a dynamic web medium where search can be difficult because of the ever changing content.
This is makes Murphy's creation a very handy search tool because not only can you designate what keyword is being searched, users also determine the sites in which their searches are conducted.
