Gmail Compatibility Issues

Post to Twitter Post to Facebook

The news concerning Gmail has had a negative bent lately. Google's email service faces questions, complaints, and privacy filings concerning the placement of contextual ads within incoming and outgoing emails. Add compatibility questions to the mounting Gmail criticisms.

It has been reported that Gmail is not compatible with Mac's primary internet browser, Safari. A list acquired from WebMasterWorld shows the browsers that Gmail is compatible with:

Microsoft IE 5.5 and newer
Netscape 7.1 and newer
Mozilla 1.4 and newer
Mozilla Firefox 0.8 and newer.

This isn't a very broad browser category. The uproar about Safari and other browsers caused Google co-founder Sergey Brin to comment. In an interview with MacCentral.com, Brin stated he was "embarrassed" that Gmail does not support Safari.

Brin went on to say, "we're going to make it work with Safari and that's one of the high priority things. I've heard that you can sort of get it to work if you're desperate. I want to fix that, and I want to make it work really well."

It appears that the complaints about Gmail are not falling on deaf ears.
