Google revealed its intention to integrate Orkut.com, an online social network, into its search engine.
Created by Orkut Buyukkokten, a Google engineer, Orkut.com was designed to be an online community website similar to Friendster.com
Google CEO, Eric Schmidt, speaking through an article in News.com, had this to say about Orkut, "one of the problems with search is you can't find people. We believe that these social networks will have a tremendous amount of information."
As of now, Google has not invested a great deal of assets to Orkut's integration. Only 3 engineers are currently working on the project that began with Buyukkokten working alone with a single server.
Google continues to upgrade its search engine in preparation for the oft-denied and oft-speculated IPO.
