Yahoo Finally Drops Google in Asia Pacific

Yahoo! has boosted the competition in the search industry even higher by dropping its partnership with Google in Australia and New Zealand.

This move should come as no surprise. It is just the latest step in Yahoo's efforts to move away from Google as rumors buzz about the search giant's potential IPO. Today's announcement comes just weeks after the web portal ended its Google relationship in the United States.

Yahoo! is now relying on its own algorithmic Yahoo! Search technology. Yahoo! Search is expected to move to Europe and Asia soon.

Yahoo! denies that its transition to in-house search is the result of Google's unconfirmed move public.

Nonetheless, Forrester Research principal analyst Charlene Li brought up a good point by saying, "Google can't be everything to everyone."

Tim Mayer, Director of Product Management, Yahoo! Search, said Yahoo! plans on using its new search capabilities "as a way to deliver better, fresher content to searches."
