An Interview with Yahoo

Post to Twitter Post to Facebook

WebProNews held an interview with Yahoo representative Tim Mayer at last week's Webmasterworld PubConference in Orlando, Florida.

The interview followed Mayer's keynote presentation on Yahoo, which revealed Yahoo's advantages over leading competitors such as Google in the personalized search industry.

Q: How can website owners better optimize for personalized search? What new advertising products can be expected?

Mayer couldn't reveal details on the new advertising products, which are still under development, but did advise webmasters to continue to serve the end user when designing their websites.

Q: Why does Yahoo offer the options of an Add URL program in addition to paid inclusion?

Mayer told WebProNews the add URL program is a free service to Yahoo! members. He said, "We want to use this as a way to deliver better, fresher content to searchers."

Of course, submitting a site is just suggesting the URL to Yahoo! and doesn't guarantee inclusion. Expect Yahoo to be picky about the sites it accepts. If a site has even the slightest whiff of "spam," Mayer says it will be excluded.
