If You Build it, Will They Come?

It wasn't so very long ago that I sat down at my computer, after much searching (and finding!) of earning opportunites in cyberspace, and decided that I MUST have a website. And I also assumed that "If I build it, they will come!" In other words, the extent of what I knew about creating and promoting a site was quite limited!

I really thought that if you just threw it out there into that place called Cyberspace, somehow all those search engines just automatically "knew" it was there, people would start visiting, and my endeavors were on auto-pilot!!!

Nothing could be further from the truth!!!! ( Even though there is SOME truth to the fact that some of the engines do spider sites automatically and they eventually will wind up somewhere in their index).

So, I groped and plodded my way through both the creation and the promotion of what I called a website. Through much trial and error, and groping and plodding (which isn't over yet!!!!), I continue to arrive at the site I currently maintain . (http://www.webworksathome.com) And, I am sure many of you could give me plenty more pointers!! (Please do!!!!!!)

It is that process in and of itself that really continues to inspire and motivate me, and remains the motive behind my site. I believe it has been a God-given task, and the answer to my prayers : for Him to show me a way to do something from home that would benefit others while helping me to be able to stay home with my family.

As I continue to learn, and apply what I learn to my site, my goal is to help you by showing you what I find that is new (to me!) and how to go about using it. OBVIOUSLY, a site does NOT make it without PLAIN OLD HARD WORK!!!!! It is a RARE business that runs on auto-pilot - and especially not a website!!!!

In light of all that, one of the main areas where I desire to help others through that groping and plodding process, is that of being a beginning webmistress (or master). If I can feel my way through it, of course, anyone else can too. But, if I can point you to any information that will enhance the process for you, then I desire to do that. And that is what one of the pages of my site specifically addresses - information for beginners. To many, I'm sure it seems like information that anyone should know. But I remember what it is like to be "internet ignorant!" I still am, compared to many!!

So, if you are a beginner, and need some basic "get started information, I would love it if you would take the time to visit: http://webworkermom.homestead.com/webmaster.html. One of the best resources on that page is a "Weekly Article" ( by a different expert each week) that will always contain information to help you create your website to be the most effective that it can be.

What ever you do, there are two ways of thinking that you NEVER need to get caught up in:

1).that choosing to create a name and a place for yourself on the Internet is as easy as all the "Get Rich Without Working" hype says that it is! You CAN'T just build it and watch them come! NOTHING is that easy!

2)that this Internet thing is just too complicated, and that you'll NEVER be able to compete with everything out there. Because - IT IS POSSIBLE!!!

But you have to be willing to take the time to learn, make mistakes, and learn again. And again. And again. And again!

I look forward to you joining me in the process!!!
