5 Great Ways to Build Traffic

1. Submit to Search Engines and Directories

This may seem obvious, but 80% of web traffic originates from the major search engines. You'll definitely want to be listed in all of them! Submitting to specialized directories that cater to a specific audience can also bring you some extra traffic.

2. Trade Links With Other Webmasters

Reciprocal linking accounts for about a third of the traffic to my websites. Find sites with content related to yours and ask the webmaster if they'd be willing to trade links with your site. Make sure it's a fair trade, though. You wouldn't want to put a link to their site on your main page unless you're getting one on theirs!

3. Publish Your Own Ezine

It can be time-consuming, but if done right, well worth it. Gather subscribers by putting a signup for on your webpage then take the time to write a quality ezine. If you run useful content on a regular basis, and promote your ezine effectively, you can easily draw traffic back to your site by announcing updates or mentioning your services.

4. Participate in Discussion Boards and Lists

Find a discussion board or list that you enjoy and post to it often. Write useful, informative posts that are relevant to the topics you reply to. If you help out, you could even gain a reputation there! Every post you make should include your own signature with a link to your website. If people like your advice, they'll take a look at your site.

5. Write Articles For Other Ezines

Write articles on the topics you know most about and submit them to ezines that match that audience. Every article you write can have a resource box attached (an "about the author" section) containing whatever text you like. Most of the time it includes a short description of who you are and a short ad for your website. If your article gets published in an ezine that goes out to 100,000 subscribers, you could easily have a lot of extra traffic! Post your articles on your website and allow others to republish them as long as they include your resource box.
