Bringing in a little extra cash through affiliate programs can be simple. These are a few quick tips to earning by choosing what you advertise, so it won't cover things like ad networks or ad space you've sold on your site.
First of all, you'll need to identify your audience. What kind of people are visiting your site on a normal basis? For example, if you distribute music through your site your visitors are probably teenagers interested in music. Don't go much further than that. If they're at your site to download music than consider your audience as being interested in music.
Now try to find affiliate programs related to music. The best way to do this is to sign up for Commission-Junction, since they offer over 1000 merchants in just about every category you could want, and it's searchable. Or you can search through several of the affiliate program guides out there for related affiliate programs. These are just a few:

Choose products that would be of direct interest to someone who's visiting your website. The idea is to compliment your site with the products or services to enhance it.
Integrate the product or service into your site. If it's a piece of software, write a short review. Letting your visitors know that you stand behind the product can easily increase the number that click through to find out more about the product or even buy it.
So next time you review an affiliate program, keep in mind whether your site's audience will benefit from the product or service. If you were visiting your own site, would you be interested in the product or service?
