After Rae Dawn Chong’s rant, and sometimes rave, of Oprah Winfrey on a recent radio appearance, her father, Tommy Chong, has come to her defense.

If you haven’t been near any type of media recently, Rae Dawn said, “If you look at the way Oprah looks, she looks like 60 years ago she would have been a house keeper luckily. She would have not been a house n**ger, she would have been a field n**ger.”

The actor, most famous for his work in the Cheech and Chong films, defended his daughter to TMZ, saying “If you think of what [Rae] said, she said back in the day Oprah would be working in the field because she’s not that beautiful…whereas if you’re beautiful, you’re part of the master’s bedroom. Knowing Oprah, she would probably read [Rae’s comments] and just chuckle and probably agree with Rae Dawn…she probably would be working in the field.”

It seems Rae Dawn has been spending most of her time since the interview responding to people on Twitter. She started by tweeting out the full interview.

Well I guess it is ok for a half-black woman to call another black woman the N-word today and not get crucified! But let a rich white woman from the South say she used the word 30 years ago and the whole world stops! What a bunch of hypocrites we have become in this PC world!!
