The President of Content Development and Production at Nickelodeon, Russell Hicks, announced on September 9, 2014 that Instant Mom was picked up for a 20-episode third season.
According to Hicks, "Instant Mom has proven to be the perfect breakout series for families to enjoy together on Nick at Nite. The show appeals to kids and parents alike, and we're excited to continue delivering new, comedic storylines that our talented cast and creative team bring to life."
Mowry-Hardict starred in Sister, Sister with her twin sister Tamera Mowry-Housley from 1994-1999. After that series ended, Mowry found success again as Melanie Barnett in the CW/BET series The Game. She later reunited with Tamera to appear in their hit Style Network reality show Tia and Tamera. They also appeared in the Disney channel original movies Twitches and Twiches Too, and Showtime's original movie Seventeen Again.

In Instant Mom, Mowry-Hardrict plays Stephanie Philips, a reformed party girl who marries Charlie Philips (played by Michael Boatman), and then suddenly becomes a stepmom to three kids. Charlie is more traditional than Stephanie, but she uses her untraditional parenting style to win over the children and learn the true meaning of being a mother. Her mother Maggie (played by Sheryl Lee Ralph) helps her adjust to her new roles in the Philips family.
Before Instant Mom premiered in 2013, Nickelodeon immediately ordered seven additional episodes. Through the course of its three seasons, the series will have 66 episodes that aired. Season 1 of Instant Mom drew 1.2 million viewers. On the NickMom comedy block on the Nick Jr. channel it became the highest-rated series premiere ever with women 18-49 and in total viewership.
