The Weather Channel Interactive announced today that it has purchased Weather Bonk, a Web 2.0 property that features user generated content and partner content, links to other sites, along with current weather conditions and forecasts.

The site also features mashups, with the different information displayed on Google maps. The acquisition included Golf Bonk and Ski Bonk, out door sports sites that have mashups similar to weatherbonk.com. Financial terms of the deal were not released.

The Weather Bonk purchase is the first by The Weather Channel Interactive and is part of its plan to expand through the acquisition of companies that complement the assets of The Weather Channel Interactive. Future acquisition targets may include travel, health, recreation, sports, traffic and other local content.

"I am looking forward to continuing to develop the Weather Bonk properties aided by the resources of The Weather Channel Interactive," said David Schorr, founder of Weather
Bonk.

"When TWCi formed our group we set out to identify companies that could provide content that would leverage our existing web properties," said Steve Hassett, vice president for new ventures at The Weather Channel Interactive. "Weather Bonk is our first deal and we are actively looking for additional acquisition opportunities."
