Shhh, can you hear that? What you’re hearing is the collective shrieks from Twihards everywhere as The Twilight Saga: New Moon is upon us. For those of you asking yourself, what is a Twihard? I’ve included the definition below.
twi-hard noun
A serious/obsessive reader of the Twilight Saga by Stephenie Meyer, one leap above Twilighters.
Are you a Twilight fan? Do you plan on seeing the movie? Let us know.
Currently the Twilight Saga is all the rage, and seems to have taken over almost every aspect of social media. If you venture over to MySpace.com you’ll see that the homepage has been New Moonified. It should be noted that New Moon & MySpace seem to share the same demographic, Tweens… so it only makes sense to try and grab those pageviews.
MySpace has been all about some New Moon here lately, as they just hosted an exclusive stream of the red carpet during the films premiere, which pulled in 3 million viewers. Did you watch any of the red carpet stream? Tell us.
Over on Twitter, Twilight holds 3 of the top 10 trending topics including the highly coveted top spot.

If you search for "New Moon" on Twitter it seems like you need to constantly refresh so you can see the hundreds of new Tweets. Below is an interesting graph, which shows the buzz over New Moon, comparing blogs to Twitter. You can obviously see the drastic climb just from last month, as the hype around the movie grew with each day.
YouTube is even trying to cash-in on the New Moon craze by adding a “Twihard” box atop their site that states the following, "The world is gripped by Twilight mania these days and on YouTube that translates into videos that celebrate, discuss and even mock the cultural phenomenon."
Like I said before, New Moon hits theatres today and is expected to make somewhere between 85 million – 100 million dollars this weekend, and could possibly break some box office records when it’s all said and done. It’s already broken the advance ticket sales record, previously held by Star Wars Episode III: Revenge of the Sith. How much do you think New Moon will make when it’s all said and done? Tell us.
It’ll be interesting to compare New Moon’s "social media status" against the next film in the saga when it hits the cinema around this same time next year, to see if it stil has the same amount of hype around it.
Why do you think Twilight is such a huge success? Tell us know your honest opinion.

Twilight is an interesting trend to keep an eye on. Some companies should look at how their marketing and try to implement some of their tactics for their business.
I got my tickets for the midnight movie last night and let me just tell you, THIS WAS SO MUCH BETTER THAN THE FIRST MOVIE. I am sick of the hype already and the movie was just released.
im a big fan of robert pattinson he is so hot. New moon was awesome already watched it twice and will be goin a third time. Can’t wait to see Eclipse……
Ive noticed myself this twilight saga was all over twitter last week and will continue to be a hot trend for at least the next few weeks.
Just goes to show just how sic this society is becoming. How many more are we going to see on the streets in weird makeup and acting nuts? Brrrr! Think I’m gonna puke.
The New Moon Spoof in Youtube was really cool. I thought I was watching the real thing. hahaha I’ll be watching it here in the Philippine cinema.
I, like probably 10 million or more Twilight fans, was blown away by this movie from the beginning. Too many words would be needed to make sense of my feelings…but I’ll use the first word that comes to mind and it’s an oldie but goodie…. AWESOME…
We’re deluged by Twilight content. Twilight fan-fics, spoofs, anti-Twilight, etc. Actually, it’s not as bad as when the first move came out but it’s ramping up again.

Hi,
I didn’t see the first one (maybe I will) and for now I’m not thinking about seeing this one.
It seems to me that it may be more of a chick flick, while I prefer something more like Nosferattus and Bela Lugosi.
Have fun,
Jos
Haven’t been to see it yet, but will be going this week. I have read the books twice now. There are very good books. I have the first movie and will be getting this one just as soon as it comes out. Can’t wait for the next movie to get out either.
I’ve made my own fan page at http://www.squidoo.com/NewMoon the most exciting thing for me has been to see all the collectibles that have come out since the movie launched.
Can you believe – I JUST started reading the first book. Figured I would jump on the bandwagon to see what all the hype was about. Although plain – the book (so far) is interesting. Don’t know how I will feel about the rest of the saga though. Stay tuned. lol
Hey guys.
Breaking some box office records? Breaking new innovative trends?, Using today’s most collaborative media trends? Of course!
This is only the beginning of using new media to totally crash the system. If your a business and have the funds and the right team at your disposal..anything is possible!
Internet marketing and social media are like peanut butter and jelly you cant go wrong when promoting a mass message to create hype.
cheers.
I had low expectations of the movie after all the pre-release commentary stating how slow it was but I have to confess I LOVED IT!
I cant say if its better or worse than the first – just different I think.
I am very much looking forward to the next one
I think Im going to get over all the hype pretty fast though – it seems every second site has a page or post about twilight (yes I am guilty too lol) Unfortunately a lot is the same old stuff
I watched the first movie and did expect much. I loved it. I plan on watching this movie although it may not be this weekend.
It’s the attack of the twilight bandwagon! It will be interesting to see if social media networks have the same response next year when a sequel is released.
