[ Life]

Television is, for most of us, an escape. It provides a magical world to look into where cars explode just because you shoot at them, life has a soundtrack, and women are always gorgeously made up even when they’re in the shower/being held prisoner/first wake up.

Unfortunately, real life doesn’t work that way. Oh, that it could. And it’s difficult, sometimes, for viewers to grasp that women look dramatically different without a pound of pancake makeup on, which is necessary under the bright studio lights of a television show but doesn’t make much sense at the grocery store. That’s why we’re always inundated with those glaring tabloid headlines which scream, “So-and-So caught out with no makeup! Shocking pictures inside!” and the invariable pictorial of a bunch of celebrities getting Starbucks looking like the rest of us haggard masses.

So when the ladies of “The Talk” announced that they would be doing a show with absolutely no makeup on for the unforgiving cameras, viewers greedily tuned in to see what would happen. Shockingly, what happened was that they were just normal women.

“There’s not many single one person that would go on TV in front of millions of people with no makeup, so to be in a group of people that are willing to do that together is really cool. It shows that we’re willing to show parts of our lives that not everybody is willing to show. We really are girlfriends and because we feel safe with each other, we’re willing to show more of ourselves to the public,” Sara Gilbert said.

    oh please!

  • Pamela Glover

They are still all beautiful women….and it had to feel good to go to work and not have to worry about make up

    • http://yahoo janette

why not? just do it..if every women stopped wearing makeup..it would become the norm and nobody would think anything of it..it starts with you!

      • Donna

        Never gonna happen!

  • Theresa

Ok thats not fair Aisha looks cute with or without the make up. I give them all credit. I know another ” talk show” whos 2 hostess did that as well and its quite an eye opener. Sadly so many young girls think what they see on tv is the REAL person and they spend their lives and money to try to obtain something that they could never possibly get without the help of a team of hair and make up people.

  • http://yahoo janette

I think they all look beautiful without makeup..i very rarely use makeup any more..i use to not go out of the house without it..but, i have figured out that we women do not need makeup to be beautiful..we do not need a mask to hide ourselves..men do not have to hide themselves..so why must we women? the world is so use to women hiding themselves we think it natural…i am hoping in the future, that women and men think it strange to use makeup..and we can just be ourselves without fear or reprisal from society…

  • Mary

I think these are the most beautiful women in the world! Kudos to all of them for being REAL and letting us all see that in fact, THEY ARE REAL PEOPLE like the rest of us. Cheers to the VIEW!

    • Ava B

It’s the Talk… Not the View

  • http://google AyitaSage

The real thing. At the end of the day, this is usually who we really are. So cool.

  • Melissa

Whoever is doing Sharon Osbourne’s plastic surgery is doing a good job. I want their number.

  • Patty

Sharon looks amazing…I think Julie shock me the most but all of them look great

  • josie

sheryl looks like a big fat baboon that needs to eat another banana…whooooo whoooo

    • lex smith

YOU ARE A STRAIGHT FOOL TO CALL HER A BABOON WHY IN THE WORLD DO YOU PEOPLE ALWAYS HAVE TO BE SO JUDGMENTAL THE RULE IS IF YOU DO NOT HAVE ANYTHING NICE TO SAY DO NOT SAY ANYTHING AT ALL AND TO REFER TO A WOMAN OF COLOR BY CALLING HER A MONKEY IS CLASSLESS AND EGREGIOUS WOW IS ALL I CAN SAY

      • konajinx

Actually, there is no such rule. It’s just an old saying. ALSO STOP TYPING IN ALL CAPS, IDIOTS.

  • Peach

I watched this yesterday – it was great. Julie DID surprise me!
We all watched Sara grow up without makeup, Mrs O has been on TV before without makeup, Sheryl has been out in the rough with the Hope and Freedom tour to entertain deployed troops, Aisha doesn’t need makeup — but Julie Chen. LOL
Julie looked like a 19 year old Chinese exchange student – only thing missing was her backpack.
Aisha did say something directly to Julie about her looking like a kid.
I am surprised no one else did.
Julie looks SO different – they should really play up on this –classy professional woman or extremely adorable kid?
She looks so young she could play herself as a teenager!

  • chris

    they all look stoned

    • Lady Diva

Beauty is Skin Deep AND ALL THESE WOMEN ARE BEAUTIFUL!…. And to the people who have made NEGATIVE COMMENTS …. HAVE YOU TAKEN A GOOD LOOK IN THE MIRROR AT YOURSELVES LATELY?? IF YOU DON’T HAVE ANYTHING GOOD TO SAY, SHUT THE HELL UP WITH YOUR INSECURE SELVES!!!

      • konajinx

Wow, calm down, it’s just a stupid comment section. TYPE IN CAPS MUCH?

    • http://yahoo cross stitch

YOU! don’t know what you’re talking about

      • http://yahoo cross stitch

I was referring to the person who said they all looked stoned.

  • Jack Abramoff

To me, when you’re applying makeup to your neck and shoulders so your face doesn’t stand out like a clown’s, it’s a good sign you’re using too much makeup!

  • Lady Diva

All of these WOMEN are Beautiful! So to all of the people making negative comments with name calling and crap, I guess you have some insecurities of your own. So SHUT THE HELL UP & go take a good look in the mirror and check yourself! IF YOU DON’T HAVE ANYTHING GOOD TO SAY, DON’T SAY NOTHING. YOU’RE NOT THE CREAM OF THE CROP!

  • http://yahoo Tami

That is the reason women who wear makeup are not who the really are.

    • Lois

That was the whole point of the day, to show that they are just regular women like the rest of us when it comes to looks. Very few people, male or female, could be under those lights and look good. Even most super-models look very plain without makeup. Unfortunately, in their world, and in many other corporate cultures, women have to wear makeup to be seen as professional and be taken seriously. I think it was very brave of them.

      • Buckl

I agree with thoughts like this one, We are SOOO attached to the “perfect MADE UP women” that many cannot see the beauty of women. Thank you ladies for your bravery in this most biased area of culture. Three cheers.

  • Wanda Louise Jones

Beauty is skin deep…….ugly is just ugly……

    • Debra Wasem

      They look great!!!!!! xoxo

    • http://webpronews towanda speight

  • mckayla haskin

I actually dont think they look that bad i mean they have some nerve i would never go on tv with no make up

  • Mary Jimenez

I think they are brave,,to know yourself is to love yourself.

    • konajinx

How the hell is this “brave”? And who even cares?

  • Cecilia

They are ALL beautiful gutsy women!

  • Betty

When The Talk first started I resisted watching it because it replaced my favorite soap. But over the years, it has grown on me. yesterday’s show was great. I am an African American woman with skin and scalp problems so I cannot wear makeup except a little eyeliner and lipsticks and gloss. Sometimes I feel out of place but then someone will tell me, “your makeup looks great!” At first I’m shocked because I feel like they are making a joke but they are sincere so I don’t look as bad as I think I do. Everyone should get that feeling no matter what their condition is.

  • http://yahoo.com deborah gant

make-up doesn’t make a person, we were born with-out make-up so it shouldn’t be shocking to see people with-out it. i love going all natural, they say black is beautifull, i say we all are beautifull, with or with-out make-up.

  • dodger7@sbcglobal.net

Why do women wear make-up and perfume? Because they are ugly and they stink.

    • Amanda Reckenwithe

dodger7, you are vile. You must HATE your own mother.

  • R

So true !! All of us women who DO WEAR makeup, at the end of theday – we do look exactly like one of these women !!

  • k

It was brave and good to show public that we can be beautiful with make up. Thank you ladies!!

  • Tim

Its incredible how totally different a lady looks without makeup. Its night and day difference. I’m a male with low self esteem due to my looks, but I don’t feel quite as bad after seeing these photos with no makeup on. Its not just these ladies either, it seems they all have a night and day difference when they have no makeup on.

    Guys don’t get this benefit.

  • Tim

I should add, I honestly would not recognize them in public, with no makeup on.

  • Shae

Awesome! Love the way you keep it real. Some people do not have the guts to do that. You all have such confidence. Thank you.

  • Dana

They all look like the REAL CLASSY LADIES THEY TRULLY ARE. For those of you that have negative things to say, I feel sorry for you because you all clearly have very low self-esteem. They are all beautiful inside and out with or without make-up.

  • nancy

I cannot believe how much make-up those ladies must wear…I think Julie looked awful….Sharon looked awful too. Sarah and Ayisha looked the best. Please don’t ever do that again!!!

  • Tongela

Love it! Thank you ladies for showing us what confident and self-assured women look like!!

    • http://yahoo Al Kendall

They’re all ugly as hell but dang…Julie Chen makes my grandfather look sexy!

    • http://yahoo Bill Kent

All of these ladies are really $gly but that Chen girl….whew!

  • guylaine

Ladies I haven’t seen your show before, I’m recovering from a bicycle accident and I had a morning off. I turned on the television and saw all these plain beautifull ladies!

I watched your show “nor” make-up free and saw regular painted dolls.

    Julie u r pretty without make up, u r!!
    Sara wow!
    And mrs Osbourne :))
and misses Underwood and Taylor gosh u r pretty!

Ladies I warched you show for the first time with the make up on and saw painted faces:Julie we could see your features without it
Plezz don’t over do it! plezz! :)

  • Cheryl

Unfortunately, I missed the show the day it aired so I am just seeing the photos. I think you are all beautiful women with or without makeup.

It is regrettable some of the harsh comments I read from some of the people that posted. I guess they are perfect “creatures” and don’t have any flaws, well except when they open their mouths.

As for the grandfather comment, I am sure your grandfather or hopefully your mother told you if you have nothing good to say “keep your mouth closed.” If not I’m saying it. Stop being childish and disrespectful, it’s not cute. Oh and sorry your grandfather looks like a beautiful woman.

  • Laura

I WOULD RATHER be the type of woman that looks good with make up then someone that looks normal all the time with or without it. Example: I tell guys–I’m more like Eva longoria type…Looks good with Make up but without it, I’m the type that don’t look to good and YOU KNOW WHAT—they all still went for me.

I would rather be that than someone who looks plain. I believe you are either one or the other—A Woman that looks HOT and SEXY but has to wear make up OR the type that don’t look good with make up and just HAS to look natural, like a guy. Example: natural looking–ellen degeneres—place red lipstick on her- and it’s a no no…Place red lipstick on scarlet Johansen and its a do.

    • Ginny

What is Sharon’s talent? Nothing! Doesn’t she own any clothes that are not black or white? Don’t care for her at all.

  • Cheryl

They all look like the rest of us without make-up. Julie Chen looks a lot younger.

  • Cree Cloud

DAYUMMM…they ALL look like ‘mug shots’…thank God for makeup!!

  • Gloria

I tell you what, I am not sure how much the makeup artists are making but they sure deserve to make top dollars + bonus!!!!

  • Thora Qaddumi

I admire the natural look, and it does save a lot of time, but seeing the difference makes me think I should put a little more effort into my appearance, as the ladies really do look better with makeup.

  • Mary

I’ve never worn makeup, but if it can make that big a difference I’m
getting a glamor shot made tomorrow.
