Lucasfilm inked an agreement with HP to use its Adaptive Enterprise solutions in game and visuals development.

“Uncle George, this workstation has a bad motivator. Look!”
“What about that HP one? We’ll take that one.”

Palo Alto-based HP gets more than a freighter full of glitterstim spice from its three-year agreement with Lucasfilm. The multi-million dollar agreement will see Lucasfilm utilize HP workstations in its Presidio and Singapore operations, for use in developing video games, visual effects, and animation, according to a press release.

AMD will be pleased with the deal too. Those HP xw9300 workstations, as many as 1,000, will be equipped with dual-core AMD Opteron processors. Both Linux and Windows XP operating systems will be used as platforms for the various in-house applications used by Lucasfilm developers.

Another part of the deal sees Lucasfilm using the HP StorageWorks array for data storage and disaster recovery. And, HP will provide some kind of undisclosed marketing services for Lucasfilm. Currently, HP has been running a promotion for Walt Disney World, where contest entrants could win trips to Orlando or other prizes.
