The Building of a Better Digg Commences
Just before the New Year, Digg Founder Kevin Rose put up his list of New Year’s resolutions. Third on that list was: "Build a Better Digg." Less than a month into 2009, the site appears to be on that track.
A little over a week ago, Digg did announce some job cuts, but it also announced that it was hiring a direct sales team. Digg CEO Jay Adelson announced that the following would be priorities for the site over 2009:
– Rolling out new features to grow and engage our community
– Building on our advertising infrastructure
– Building on our successful partnership with Microsoft
– Ongoing sponsorship opportunities
– Ongoing publisher and trade partnerships
The rolling out of new features has already begun. Apart from the features announced last month, which included a redsign of article pages to feature related stories based on keywords and a list of top stories with the same topic, they’ve released another feature to help users find related stories.
"The latest feature is called “People who Dugg this also Dugg”, or PWDTAD(we’ve been pronouncing it kind of like how Tweety Bird says Putty Tat), and we’re pretty excited about it," explains Mark Trammell on Digg the Blog. "PWDTAD helps you discover related stories based on what fellow Diggers of that story have recently Dugg."
Trammell promises that more enhancements will be rolled out over the next few months. Now that Twitter has (debatably) surpassed Digg in traffic, they are surely looking for ways to continue improving. It sounds like in a year from now, we’re going to have quite a different Digg.
