Teresa Giudice: Will She Serve Time in Prison?
Teresa Giudice is definitely in hot water.
The federal scandal surrounding the Real Housewives of New Jersey stars Teresa and Joe Giudice just took an abrupt turn.
According to US Weekly, the reality TV couple has opted to plead guilty to several charges they’ve received as part of their 41-count indictment on numerous fraud and tax charges.
The news comes months after the Giudices’ original plea of not guilty to two of the charges back in November. An inside source close to the couple shared details of their plea deal with the publication.
“Teresa and Joe Giudice have arranged a plea agreement with prosecutors in their federal case,” the insider said. “The couple will plead guilty to several but not all 41 of the charges, and both will appear in court on Tuesday with their lawyers.”
The publication also reports that there will be a “long sentencing process” after the couple enters their plea deal on March 4. The inside source went on to share a number of the possible outcomes the couple could face following the plea arrangement. “Probation, fines, and or jail time are still all options on the table,” adds the source.
The news of the couple’s federal scandal broke in July of 2013. Teresa, 41, and Joe, 43, were initially charged with conspiracy to commit mail fraud and wire fraud, bank fraud, making false statements on loan applications, and bankruptcy fraud in a 39-count indictment. However, back in November, two additional charges were added to the original indictment, bringing the number to 41 counts.
The inside source also confirmed inconsistencies in another report about the couple’s penalties. “Reports that Teresa and Joe have agreed to a deal that involves set definitions of fines, jail time or probation are inaccurate,” the insider said. While the plea deal may lessen their penalties, there is still a possibility that Teresa or Joe may have to serve time in federal prison. Only time will tell.
Teresa Giudice is currently filming season six of the Real Housewives of New Jersey. The couple is scheduled to release a formal statement in regards to the indictment on Tues., March 4.
