Actor Taye Diggs is set to make a guest appearance on Fox's New Girl, playing a self-assured ladies' man. Diggs' character, "Artie," will meet Jess (Zoey Deschanel) and Cece (Hannah Simone) in the bar, while Nick (Jake Johnson) is on a guys' night out.
The episode is set to air this fall, and will also feature the return of "Coach" (Damon Wayans, Jr.), who last appeared in the New Girl pilot.
Diggs also recently took on a real-life role as a police officer, after tackling a burgler he'd found rummaging through his garage.
In related news, Netflix announced in July that it picked up New Girl for a multi-year streaming contract with 20th Century Fox. The sitcom concerns Jessica "Jess" Day (Deschanel) - an effervescent teacher in her late twenties from Portland, Oregon. In the pilot, Jess finds out her live-in boyfriend is cheating on her, so she moves in with Nick (Jake Johnson), Schmidt (Max Greenfield) and Winston (LaMorne Morris).
Netflix has added New Girl to its exclusive comedy lineup, including Arrested Development, the hit Orange is the New Black, and the upcoming Ricky Gervais-starring Derek.
Scott Leo "Taye" Diggs was born January 2, 1971, in Newark, and is best known for roles in the Broadway musical Rent, the motion picture How Stella Got Her Groove Back, and the television series Private Practice. His nickname, Taye, comes from a pronunciation of Scotty as "Scottay".
