StatCounter: Bing Back Above Yahoo Syndicate content

On a temporary basis, at least, it looks like the Bing team racked up another win this week.  New data indicates that Microsoft's search engine passed Yahoo's in terms of market share, and did so by a significant amount.

Google Captures Nearly Three-Quarters Of Searches Syndicate content

Microsoft's Bing accounted for 5.25 percent of all U.S. searches for the month of June, according to the latest data from Hitwise. Google continued to hold on to its dominant position growing 7 percent year-over- year capturing 74.04 percent of the U.S. search market for the month. Yahoo landed in the second position with 16.19 percent of the search market, but saw its growth drop 17 percent year-over-year, while Ask received 3.15 percent of searches with its growth slipping 22 percent year-over-year.

Yahoo Adds Capabilities to YQL Syndicate content

Last year, Yahoo debuted its YQL language, which lets users query, filter, and join data across web data sources or services on the web. YQL or Yahoo Query Language is based on a SQL-like language, and it helps apps run faster with fewer lines of code. Today, Yahoo announced a new feature for YQL, and that is the Insert/Update/Delete feature. A spokesperson for Yahoo tells WebProNews this extends the platform by adding “write" capability to its capabilities, including YQL Open Data Tables and Execute."

Yahoo Settles Lawsuit With NFL Syndicate content

Yahoo and the NFL Players Association have reached a settlement over the use of players' statistics, images and other information in Yahoo's fantasy football games. Yahoo sued the NFLPA last month arguing it should not have to pay additional royalties to use players' data in its fantasy football games because the information is publicly available.

Yahoo has introduced its new Search Pad feature, which allows users to organize, save and share information they find while researching information online. Search Pad works by automatically recognizing when users are doing research and allows them to collect information and websites found in their search results. Search Pad organizes information in one integrated notepad that stays with users as they search.

Different data-tracking firms almost always report different statistics, and this has led to a fair number of confusing did-it-or-didn't-it-gain-share situations.  Bing seems to be solidly in the black, however, as new StatCounter info supports the idea that the new engine is doing well. Doubters may remain - and in the long-term, may or may not win the argument - but comScore and Hitwise (and StatCounter, for that matter) had already suggested that Bing's gaining on Google and Yahoo.  The latest report adds a nice bar graph to the evidence pile.
