Taiwanese Expats Visit Googleplex
Taiwanese expatriates living in the Silicon Valley area demonstrated outside the Googleplex on Tuesday for a demonstration of solidarity after Google removed a reference from Google Maps labeling Taiwan a “province of China,” the Taipei Times reports.
According to that publication Taiwanese “swamped” Google’s Mountain View, Calif. Headquarters in a “display of support” for Taiwan’s sovereignty. The demonstrators waved banners reading “Taiwan is an independent country” and “one China, one Taiwan.”
Google removed the “province of China” reference after the island nation of the coast of China protested the wording, insisting the nation is independent and will remain independent.
