Amazon Looks For New Filmmakers With Launch Of Amazon Studios

Amazon.com has launched Amazon Studios, a new online business that allows filmmakers and screenwriters to submit full-length movies and scripts to get their movie made and make money.

Through the monthly and annual Amazon Studios Awards, Amazon Studios will offer a total of $2.7 million to the top submissions received by Dec. 31, 2011, and will seek to develop the top Amazon Studio projects as commercial feature films under its first-look deal with Warner Bros. Pictures.

Netflix Gets More Streaming Content From Warner

Warner Brothers and Netflix said today they are expanding their existing streaming content agreement that will add a number of TV shows to the Netflix catalog.

Under the agreement, Netflix has acquired the streaming rights to all 100 episodes of "Nip/Tuck," "Veronica Mars," "Pushing Daisies" and "Terminator: The Sarah Connor Chronicles."

Warner Bros. said today it has reached a new agreement with Netflix to make new Warner titles on DVD and Blu-ray available to Netflix members after a 28-day window.

The move by Warner is an effort to squeeze all the potential profit it can from its new releases. Warner says under the deal Netflix will benefit by paying the studio less for new releases. The agreement also expands the license for Warner Bros. streaming content allowing Netflix to offer its members more movies they can watch instantly.

Warner Bros. Sues SeeqPod For Infringement

Warner Bros. is suing music search engine SeeqPod accusing the company of profiting from "mass infringement" on its site.

In a complaint filed in California District Court, Warners alleges "SeeqPod directly infringes Plaintiffs’ copyrighted works, including by making on-demand and unauthorized digital public performances of those works. SeeqPod secondarily infringes Plaintiffs’ copyrights under the well-established doctrines of contributory, vicarious and inducement liability."
