Taylor Swift has taken some flack from feminists in the past for her rather romantic songwriting, but now she’s getting a very different sort of attention.

The singer/songwriter is the focus of a parody account on Twitter that was created by a fan and uses variations on her lyrics to send a positive feminist message. Clara Beyer says she’s not making fun of Swift with her posts; rather, she’s taking popular music that she herself likes and giving it a new spin.

“I’m not the only one who enjoys her music but feels uncomfortable with some of the messages,” said Beyer. “I couldn’t do this if I didn’t know all of our lyrics, it takes a fan to be able to do this.”

Beyer created the account with a friend; when it was done, she had 300 followers. The next day, she says, she woke up to find she’d amassed over 6,000.

“You were Romeo / I was a scarlet letter / Because I’ve had like, 6 boyfriends / Which isn’t even that many / Slut shaming is a real problem” reads one tweet. Another says, “She wears short skirts / I wear t-shirts / Neither of us is asking for it”. Swift herself hasn’t commented on the page, but has said that she doesn’t consider herself a feminist, and many agree with her. As the girl who is known for writing songs about her ex-boyfriends, Swift has garnered something of a bad rep among young women.

“I don’t really think about things as guys versus girls. I never have. I was raised by parents who brought me up to think if you work as hard as guys, you can go far in life,” she told The Daily Beast.

But Beyer says she thinks that a young woman who has taken control over her career and become such a success is a positive role model to feminists everywhere.

If you’re a brand who’s looking to expand its social media strategy – you better give Vine a look if you’re not already.

New data from SocialBakers suggests that Twitter users are almost as likely to engage with your Vine videos as they are to engage with any YouTube videos you post.

They looked at average engagement rates of tweets containing both YouTube videos and Vine videos, posted by targeted brands in the past month or so. What they found was that Vine is fast approaching YouTube in terms of content that’s getting the clicks from Twitter users.

“Tweeted YouTube videos earned a 0.048% Engagement Rate. Compare this to Tweets containing Vine uploads which earned a 0.031% Engagement Rate. That means in the six months since Vine was introduced to social media, it has almost caught up to YouTube uploads on Twitter in terms of engagement. This is amazing considering that for most of its life, Vine was only available on iPhones and iPads,” says SocialBakers.

And they’re right. Vine just launched an Android app around two weeks ago. At that time, they reported 13 million registered users. Vine is definitely the new kid on the block, but it’s definitely making an impression.

Vine is not only seeing a high level of engagement – but it’s also simply seeing a higher level of exposure on Twitter. Last week, Vine video shares surpassed Instagram photo shares for the very first time. That’s even more incredible when you think about the active user discrepancy between the two – 13 million registered users vs. 100 million monthly active users, respectively.

Sure, Instagram and Twitter had a falling out and Instagram photos are no longer displayed in Twitter’s expanded tweets – but still, you can’t deny Vine’s quick influence in the social sphere.

Vine may even have Facebook (who owns Instagram) scared. Rumors indicate that Facebook may be gearing up to unveil short video capabilities, akin to Vine, for Instagram.

Brands are already using Vine to expand their social media reach. One example of the best use comes from Lowe’s, who has been posting 6-second how-to videos for months now. They’re pretty awesome.

If the rumors concerning Selma Blair and her role on FX’s Anger Management turn to fact, the actress’ relationship with Charlie Sheen has deteriorated well beyond the feud stage. A report at TMZ indicates the two are “at WAR (their capitalization, not mine)” and, in fact, Blair may be out of a job. At least if Sheen has his winning way. With that in mind, allow me to get this out of the way: so much for Sheen (and Blair) managing their anger, right? Bad jokes aside, it appears as if Sheen has a hard time getting along with, well, anyone for long periods of time.

Granted, in this case, it appears as if Blair started the mess by saying Sheen was “a menace to work with,” and that the actor has poor work habits. The report indicates she told this to the executive team behind the series, and, as is the Hollywood way, word got back to Sheen, which lead to the following predictable reaction from the actor:

But sources close to Sheen tell us the actor did more than just complain … he told everyone HE FIRED SELMA altogether — although it’s unclear how official it was.

Charlie then made it clear to “AM” honchos … if Selma shows up to set Monday — when the show is scheduled to shoot — he’ll refuse to work.

TMZ goes onto say that their sources indicate the bosses at FX are hoping this goes away. Oddly enough, the news about the Blair/Sheen blow up comes just six days after the actress posted the following on Twitter:

Thanks for a great day back @charliesheen . You looked pretty darn handsome.

— Selma Blair (@SelmaBlair) June 11, 2013

I suppose it’s worth noting that Sheen did not respond to Blair’s tweet, and if the news of this fallout is true, it’s doubtful he will anytime soon. Whatever the case, I hope someone tell him to stop hitting the “Return” key when he wants to make a new line in a tweet. Twitter’s word wrap works quite effectively. An example:

don't forget
MONDAY NIGHT
ON FOX!!
9:30 pm!
Anger Management!!
come one come all!
I'm counting on you
America!
c
http://t.co/edF2hBkpsB

— Charlie Sheen (@charliesheen) June 10, 2013

Mad Men is almost at the end of its penultimate season. There’s only one episode left and fans are wondering what will happen.

In the past season, fans have been subjected to a number of major events that have left little to the imagination. We now know (spoilers ahead) that Bob Benson is gay (and might be a spy), Megan Draper is not dead, and that she won’t be dying anytime soon. So, what’s left for the finale? The thing is – nobody really knows.

The New York Times’ recently spoke about the new episode and said there’s “not one big plot point left to be resolved.” The Times’ Logan Hill does expect something surprising from the finale though. He says that he expects the engagement between Don and Megan in the season four finale will become undone in the season six finale.

Hill’s prediction may not happen, but the season finale will have to set up the seventh and final season of Mad Men. It has to be something that will make viewers want to tune in when the seventh season starts without revealing all the mysteries that will undoubtedly be revealed in season seven.

Fans took to Twitter to talk about Sunday’s episode and what they expect to see next Sunday:

Bob Benson's big reveal on #MadMen was pretty anticlimactic, to be honest. At least there's one episode left for him to come out as a spy.

If ever there was an athlete made to fully embrace the six seconds of glory that is Vine, it would be social media maven/Olympic athlete, Lolo Jones. The prolific Twitter user has gone all in with the mini video application, something her recent Vine activity demonstrates quite well. Apart from embracing the quickly decreasing attention span of, well, everyone, Vine looks like it’s providing an evolution of sorts for what has surely become the favorite social media sharing/mobile phone camera activity, taking selfies.

In her latest video, however, Jones uses her “I take great selfies” ability to bring attention to the inequality of funding regarding Olympic athletes. Of course, Jones had to explain that position after posting the following video:

While Jones’ has since explained the reason for posting the video, when it first hit, people apparently took at as Jones acting like a spoiled athlete, while pointing out she, in fact, has money from previous endorsements. While that may be the case, it took Jones clarifying before it clicked:

“I don’t want to make anyone mad, and I’ve always wanted to help out the bobsled athletes,” Jones exclusively tells E! News. “Some of them have debt because they’ve given their life to the sport. My partner Jazmine [Fenlator] and I had to raise money for the bobsled to be funded just to finish the season, because only two of the three sleds are funded by the team… The Vine of the paycheck is just showing the difference between track and bobsled, and to be honest, bobsledders work more hours than track!”

Jones has played this angle up on Twitter as well:

RT @ilanared: Yes Lolo Jones Vine on bobsled $ got laughs, but for most athletes it's their life. … http://t.co/SLB2N3TTpX

Perhaps Jones should use her influence and commercial appeal to bring about change to the funding imbalance. Furthermore, CelebrityNetWorth.org has the Olympian’s 2012 earnings at $1.5 million, and her endorsers include:

Her sponsors include ASICS, McDonald’s Corporation, Red Bull, Oakley, Procter & Gamble, Twinlab Corporation, BP, DISC Sports & Spine Center, and Kemin

Granted, I don’t know a great deal about Olympic training, and the fundraising involved, but it seems to me most of the companies listed in Jones’ stable of endorsers would be happy to be associated with such a cause, especially McDonald’s, which is always eager to paint itself in a positive light. Supporting an under-funded Olympian just seems like another solid PR move.

You know how Facebook is hosting another product event on June 20th? Well, according to TechCrunch, the product that’s going to be unveiled actually has something to do with Instagram, Facebook’s billion-dollar acquisition. Instagram may be getting video.

If true, it sounds like someone is looking to capitalize on, or at least steal thunder from, the success of Twitter’s 6-second video app Vine. According to TechCrunch’s source, as well as a previous report from former Reuters social media editor Matthew Keys, the new feature videos will let users record 5 to 10 second videos. Not much else was detailed, like whether or not the videos will have filters, or any other sort of quick-editing tools. But since it is Instagram we’re talking, it almost seems nuts that they would debut short videos without their signature filters.

Vine has been gaining momentum since its launch back in January, just recently launching on Android. Last week, we told you that Vine video shares had actually surpassed Instagram photo shares on Twitter for the first time ever. Even though that may be able to be explained by the fact that Instagram cut itself out of Twitter last year in order to direct people to the actual Instagram site, it’s still a indicator of Vine’s early success.

Other than this new Instagram videos rumor, we’ve speculated that Facebook could be looking to talk about an expanded presence for public conversations (on the heels of their big hashtag rollout), or even an RSS reader of sorts. Whatever the case, we’ll be covering the event. Facebook sent the event invites by snail mail, simply saying that “a small team has been working on a big idea.”

So…what’s the big idea?

Steve Irwin’s daughter, Bindi, is highly popular with both his fans and in her own right; as a child, she appeared with her dad on several of his specials and showed a great appreciation for the animal kingdom. She’s become a success since his passing in 2006, hosting her own show “Bindi The Jungle Girl” and appearing in films and on television shows as both an actress and an educator on exotic animals. She’s got a pretty loyal fanbase, to say the least. So when a trending topic hit the web on Thursday indicating she was dead, the internet practically broke.

It turns out the trend wasn’t the fault of any one person–as these popular death hoaxes usually are–but rather a glitch in the Matrix. Because she was trending yesterday–due to photos she’d shared of herself on vacation–an aggregation attached her to searches associated with her father. A search of the teen, therefore, brought up the words “Steve Irwin Daughter Dies”, because the search trend wasn’t her name, but rather “Steve Irwin Daughter”.

Bindi’s fans didn’t know what to make of the situation, as she was in Hong Kong on vacation and was posting photos of the beach at the time to her Twitter account. But rest assured, she is alive and well, and no cruel hoaxer is to blame for the trend.

Bindi was very close to her father and has spoken of her love for the way her family lives, saying, “We literally live right in the middle of the Australia zoo, and that is really wonderful in itself. But it’s also great because anyone who comes to visit us gets to experience a family of animals and keepers, and really take something with them. They end up having a greater appreciation of wildlife – and that’s what it’s all about, for me.”

Amanda Bynes has a thing about calling people ugly. In the past few weeks, the former child star has called everyone from R&B star Drake to her own father “ugly.”

This week, Bynes turned her ire toward pop star Miley Cyrus. In a now-removed tweet, Bynes simply tweeted “Ur ugly” at Cyrus’ Twitter account. Now, Cyrus has answered Bynes’ call for attention, but is taking the high road.

In an interview this week with Washington D.C. radio station Hot 99.5, Cyrus stated that she really doesn’t want to address the issue. Instead, Cyrus was more subtle than simply name-calling, stating that Bynes’ situation is “sad.”

“I think it’s all so sad that I don’t wanna add any fuel to that fire, because it’s really so sad to me,” said Cyrus. ” You know, I was rooting for a comeback until [she started] attacking me. And, you know, I just thought it was hilarious that she mentioned my name the moment I was the worldwide trending topic on Twitter. It’s just funny, ’cause the moment you’re, you know, a trending topic it’s funny how many people want your name to come out of their mouth ’cause somehow they can associate and maybe they could be a trending topic.”

Bynes has been acting out on Twitter for months, posting strange and sometimes topless photos to her account. Since her arrest for bong-throwing in May, the former Nickelodeon star has been on the defensive, Tweeting (again) that she doesn’t do drugs and emphasizing that she posts whatever she likes to her account:

This is my twitter. I say whatever I want. Thanks!

Twitter Analytics is now available to any user, not just Twitter’s advertising partners. Christopher Penn discovered this, and wrote about it on his blog, and it has since been picked up by several tech news outlets.

You should be able to access Twitter Analytics by going to settings, Twitter Ads, and from the Ads homepage, going to “Analytics”. From there, you can find “Timeline activity”.

From there, Twitter will show you your history of tweeting, along with engagement metrics for each tweet: number of favorites, number of retweets and number of replies. You can organize the tweet chart by Best, Good, and All.

It will also show you a visual timeline of the mentions, follows and unfollows you receive over a two-month period.

If you select “Followers” from the dashboard, you can see a separate dashboard showing your follower activity over time. It shows most unique interests and top interests of your followers by percentage, as well as follower locations, including the top cities, and gender. Additionally, it shows who your followers also follow.

While the offering appears to be available to all Twitter users, it should be noted that the data isn’t completely there for everybody.
