Commercials are the highlight of the Super Bowl; it’s that comic relief from the unbearable tension of the high stakes football game. From naughty body painting commercials to talking heads sprouting from a body, this year’s game had many hilarious and notable spots.

According to USA Today, advertising tracking website AdMeter.co.uk announced a line-up best commercials based on their data.

With many of the funniest spots making the list, the top spot, however, belongs to a very talented baby and his (or her) annoyed grandmother.

In the commercial a young boy proceeds to taunt the the grandma and innocent baby with a bag of Doritos from across the way in the safety of his club house. The grandmother, sick of the boy’s dastardly teasing, decides to make use of the baby’s bouncy swing. She then takes up the child, throws her power wheelchair in reverse and launches the baby across the yard. The whipper snapper nabs the bag from the hands of the surprised boy then returns safely to the porch to enjoy the snack with grandma.

Have you run out of TV shows to watch on Netflix? Fear not, because an all new show is premiering today – and it’s a Netflix exclusive.

Announced just a month ago, Lilyhammer is available to watch today. All eight episodes of the first season are being made available at once, meaning the impatient viewers among us can schedule a marathon session.

Lillyhammer sounds interesting enough. It stars Steven Van Zandt, who you might remember from his amazing role of Silvio from The Sopranos. You also might know him from his work with The Boss, as Van Zandt is the guitarist for Bruce Springsteen’s E Street Band. Van Zandt stars as Frank Tagliano, a New York mobster that has to go into witness protection in Norway after testifying against a boss.

From the Netflix blog:

This show is different in many ways. First of all, this is surely the most ambitious original show to premiere online in history. The presence of an American star like Van Zandt and the production quality and the length of the episodes position “Lilyhammer” in the class of programing usually only found on premium pay television.

Van Zandt’s character understands Norwegian, but doesn’t speak it well, so the folks he encounters speak mostly in their native tongue with subtitles while Stevie speaks in English in the US and Canada. The episodes will be presented fully subtitled in local languages in Latin America. It is highly unusual for a single programmer to debut shows in multiple territories.

Apparently, the show is already a mega hit in Norway, as a whopping 1.2 million people watch every week (it’s been airing over there for 3 weeks). Since Norway only has about 5 million people, Lilyhammer is the most watched show in the country’s history. And even more important than that, it has The Boss’ approval. Springsteen went the the NY premiere and said he loved it.

Later this year, Netflix will roll out even more orignal content in the form of the Kevin Spacey & David Fincher project House of Cards.

Will you check it out? What do you think about Netflix’s strategy of making the entire first season available at once? Let us know in the comments.

Winter is coming. Not only that, but so are quite a few nerdgasms as HBO’s hit series Game of Thrones is almost back for its second season.

HBO has just released the newest teaser trailer for the season, and it shouldn’t be a shock to anyone that it looks awesome. All of your favorite characters like Tyrion Lannister & Daenerys Targaryen play a part in the trailer, as do some of the show’s most hated like the wretched Joffrey. Check it out below:

The season two premiere is set to take place on April 1st, unless it’s some sort of cruel April Fools Joke.

Twitter is buzzing about the little tease:

In 2008, politics changed in a big way. This change was driven by the impact that the Internet and social media had on the Presidential election. Since that time, this same influence has been evidenced all across the world such as with the protests in the Middle East.

As a result of these events, users have an outlet to let their voice be heard. According to a new study from Topix and Equation Research, the gap that once separated voters and politics is getting smaller and smaller, largely because of the Internet.

Where do you go to get your political information? Let us know.

The companies surveyed 1,000 U.S. voters and found that more voters are going online for political information. In addition, more than a quarter of voters are going to the Web to participate in political discussions and debates.

“People are working these issues out themselves by talking to the people on the Net,” said Chris Tolles, CEO of Topix.

One of the reasons people are going to the Web is because many in the U.S. distrust the media for issues of bias, as the Gallup Poll found last year. Tolles told us that Internet gives users choice and lets them be a part of the political process in a scalable way.

As he explained, voters want to see both sides presented. They’re not just looking for an echo chamber, but they’re looking for an interactive experience that platforms such as Topix, Facebook, and Twitter provide.

TV is still the biggest source that voters rely on for political information, but the Internet isn’t too far behind with those surveyed weighing in at 78 percent and 68 percent respectively. Although the Internet is gaining ground, Tolles does not believe TV will lose its value. Instead, he thinks the two will merge to some degree.

The main difference between the two is the interactivity that the Web offers. Tolles told us that voters want to have a “personal relationship” with news, which interactivity helps to promote.

“The Internet gives you a chance, as an individual, to get [to be] a little bit bigger part of the process,” he said.

He went on to say that the relationship between politics and the Internet would continue to grow and that more voters would look to the Web for political information going forward. Tolles also said that politicians would have to figure out how to embrace the Web more effectively.

WBIR-TV in Knoxville, Tennessee covered Pinterest very well in this TV news report. They interviewed a local photographer who uses Pinterest as an inspiration board, as well as Gavin Baker, Director of digital media at Moxley Carmichael, a media and PR firm in the Knoxville area.

Even though Pinterest is still invitation-only (and kind of slow to get them out there, at that), this kind of news coverage promises to keep those visitor numbers rolling in high.

A new app for iPhone offers to pay you for watching TV.

I’ll wait til you stop hyperventilating.

Available now at the App Store, Viggle is a free app. Once you install the app, you tap the screen and the app listens to what you are watching on TV, recognizes it as TV, and gives you 2 points for every minute you watch of TV.

Once you rack up 7,500 points (62.5 hours), you get a $5 gift card from retailers like iTunes, Best Buy, and Starbucks. Meh.

But, there are ways to collect bonus points, too. Watch an ad, get more points. Watch certain shows, get extra points. You get 1.500 points for just signing up. You get 200 points for getting friends to sign up.

Since you’re already thinking up ways to game the system, there are some rules. You have to watch a show for at least 10 minutes. You can’t watch the same ad over and over.

Now, there’s bound to be someone out there with a DVR, a wide network of friends willing to help with a social experiment, and someplace to sell iTunes cards. The clock is ticking.

Just because Google is testing the waters of print adverts in the United States doesn’t necessarily mean there’s going to be a resurgence of print advertising in the future. In fact, total spending on print advertising is projected to continue it’s downward spiral in 2012.

According to people who understand the marketing market, the decline in print ad spending in the U.S. is expected to fall $33.8 billion this year while the amount of money funneled into online advertising is expected to seesaw upwards to $39.5 billion. Online adverting spending already grew 23% in 2011 and this year’s speculation would see an additional growth of 23.3%. Actually, barring any paper robot revolution, print ads are looking to remain static from here on out.

If bar graphs aren’t your thing, eMarketer explains:

“Advertisers’ comfort level with integrated marketing is greater than ever, and this is helping more advertisers—and more large brands—put a greater share of dollars online,” said David Hallerman, eMarketer principal analyst.

The growing amount of time consumers spend with digital platforms and advertisers’ view of the internet as a more measurable medium—especially as the soft economy forces businesses to be more accountable with their ad dollars—are both significant contributors to digital’s growing footprint, Hallerman added.

TV advertising spending, however, forecasts sunnier skies if you’re looking to sell some ads. eMarketer estimates that spending on TV advertising is expected to grow 6.8% this year and will continue to generate growth over the next few years.

One reason eMarketer states that TV advertising will continue to grow is “a result of the rapid rise of digital advertising and brands’ continued confidence in television advertising, despite increasingly fragmented viewership and the soft economy.” Duh. The television market will always be a fertile ground to plant ads because people will never stop watching television. Hasn’t anybody ever seen Wall-E?

Amazon has been announcing a slew of streaming content deals for its UK Netflix-like property LoveFilm. This time it’s one with ABC TV.

Thanks to a partnership with Disney UK, LoveFilm will offer on-demand streaming access to ABC Studios’ library of network and cable series.

This includes shows like Castle, Lost, Desperate Housewives, Happy Endings, Grey’s Anatomy, Ghost Whisperer and Brothers & Sisters. Shows will be launched as full seasons after their first run on UK pay and/or free TV, Amazon says. Previous seasons of some series will be available to members before the next season airs in the UK.

“LoveFilm members want top class TV shows, as well as movies, to watch instantly as part of their subscription. Today’s deal with Disney brings them access to some of the best American TV content ever produced. LoveFilm’s unique combination of world class movies and TV shows ensures that LoveFilm is the first and only port of call for those who want subscription entertainment on demand,” says LoveFilm CEO Simon Calver.

“ABC TV On Demand is home to high quality, compelling US drama, produced by ABC Studios, and launching this service with LoveFilm means we are able to offer viewers more choice and flexibility in how and when they can view full seasons of these gripping shows, through one easy-to-use service,” adds Catherine Powell, senior vice president / general manager, Media Distribution, The Walt Disney Company.

Other recent LoveFilm streaming deals include Sony, BBC and ITV.

Now, competition is significantly higher for LoveFilm, as Netflix just entered the UK market last week.
