A metaphysical mystery, small town, a dynamic group of interesting characters; it certainly sounds like a Stephen King novel. Like all of the great Stephen King books, the story will be adapted to a different media. With ‘Under the Dome’, it will be receiving the television treatment, coming to CBS in June. The series will be produced by Brian K. Vaughan, known for his work in comics with Y: The Last Man.

IGN released a new trailer, providing some more details of the feel of the show along with some of the characters that will be appearing.

If the premise seems familiar, it’s because the use of a dome over a small town was used in The Simpson’s Movie, as seen below.

Before you accuse Stephen King or the show for ripping off The Simpsons, you should know that the novel has been in the works well before The Simpsons movie. According to Stephen King in the interview below, he’s been stewing on the idea since the mid-70′s.

The latest trailer for 2K Games’ XCOM: Enemy Unknown highlights the sacrifices players are going to have to make if they hope to push back the alien invasion. As commander, gamers will have to balance sending soldiers to die with the costs of training those soldiers.

XCOM: Enemy Unknown is a sequel to the original XCOM, which was released nearly two decades ago in 1993. The sequel will feature action and strategy gameplay, as gamers have to recruit and train soldiers, perform research, and develop tactics to combat an alien invasion. If gamers are looking for some good interplanetary-war science fiction gaming this fall that isn’t Halo 4, XCOM might be a good option.

The game is scheduled for release on October 9th in the U.S. Check out the “Casualties of War” trailer below to see some of the frightening, brutal enemies and valiant soldiers that will clash in XCOM: Enemies Unknown.

Bethesda showed off a gameplay trailer for Dishonored at E3 that highlighted two very disparate ways to play the game: stealthy or psycho. Since then, the game’s developers have released a steady stream of trailers and screenshots that reveal details about the game and its setting, the dystopian steampunk city of Dunwall.

Today, Bethesda returned to the concept of how gamers will play the game, showing off specifics of about the way their game engine handles a stealthy playthrough. It details important stealth powers, and and shows how the game’s AI reacts to player movement, hiding, noise, and distractions. Check it out for yourself and see whether you might have the patience to play through Dishonored as a stealthy assassin:

Dishonored is scheduled to hit stores on October 9th in the U.S. and will be available for the Xbox 360, PlayStation 3, and PC.

Resident Evil fans have already gotten a nice taste of what awaits them in less than 2 months when they get their hands on Resident Evil 6. Capcom has been releasing trailers and gameplay videos with regularity, and a demo for the title is even available for owners of Dragon’s Dogma on the Xbox 360.

This week, what appears to be a launch trailer for Resident Evil 6 has hit the internet. Once again, Gamescom 2012 has become a font of information and leaks about upcoming titles, rivaling even the info-dump that is E3. The trailer was apparently filmed secretly at Gamescom using a smartphone, and the video and audio are of poor quality. Still, the trailer shows the events that propel Leon, Chris, Ada, Sherry, and others toward what could be the conclusion of a major Resident Evil story arc.

Much of the early part of the game has been previewed already, but this trailer shows that Leon and Helena, framed for a bioterrorism attack which released the “C” virus, will be faking their deaths in an effort to throw off the Umbrella Corporation. The rest of the trailer is filled with fast-cut action scenes, and is similar to a modern blockbuster movie trailer. Take a look at the trailer below and catch a glimpse of the exciting, though undoubtedly convoluted, story in Resident Evil 6.

To say I’m a huge Silent Hill fan would be an understatement. What Konami has done to the franchise since Silent Hill 3 has been absolutely awful with the only shining beacon of hope coming in the form of Shattered Memories. Part of my disappointment can be attributed to how lackluster the first Silent Hill film was. In a game that’s already set up to be a fantastic film, Hollywood just didn’t get it right.

Despite all my complaints, the first film did pretty well for itself. That’s why the studio opted to make a sequel called Silent Hill: Revelation. All we knew beforehand was that it was going to follow the plot of Silent Hill 3 and be more faithful to the source material. With the first trailer hitting the Web today, how faithful to the source material are they?

From what the trailer imparts on us, it seems that all they got right was Heather Mason and the town being named Silent Hill. It seems that the director and screenplay writer still can’t get it through their heads that Pyramid Head does not belong anywhere except Silent Hill 2. They also seem to have paired Heather up with some random guy from her high school. It all just seems like the same cliche horror experience from the first film without any of the positive elements from the games.

Of course, this is all coming from a hardcore Silent Hill fan who’s been let down too many times in the past few years. Check out the trailer for yourself. You may be far more agreeable towards it:

In its defense, it looks like a decent horror film. It just seems to miss the point entirely once again. Silent Hill isn’t about the cult, scary monsters or the story of Alessa Gillepsie. The town has always been the antagonist, but they always have to put that role onto Pyramid Head.

As a lesson to Hollywood and to give some hope to my fellow Silent Hill fans, check out this fan made trailer for a Silent Hill 3 movie. It’s way better than what Hollywood could ever cook up:

Just out of curiosity, is denying something over and over again, only to admit that the thing you’ve been denying actually exists considered a good marketing strategy? Does it help build the highly sought after buzz among legions of fans? With that in mind, after months of denying it, Square Enix has officially announced that their smash hit, Final Fantasy VII, is indeed coming to the PC market.

While the official date of the release is still a mystery, unless you know a secret about the phrase “Coming Soon” that I don’t, Square Enix has embraced the release with a new site devoted to the PC game (FinalFantasyVIIPC.com) and a new trailer to boot, the motivation behind the denials is a little confusing. I understand the desire for secrecy because that itself only helps build buzz, but with a game with such high brand recognition, the “hide it behind the curtain” approach seems overblown.

Whatever the case, here’s the trailer:

The new site also reveals some details about the game, including the introduction of 36 unlockable achievements. Fan profiles can also be shared with other players, which comprises Square Enix’s nod to the social media aspect of gaming. There’s also a section called “Cloud Saves,” which, as the name indicates, will give players the option of saving their current PC session to the Square’s cloud storage so it can be retrieved on another machine at a later time.

Another area of mystery concerns the price. When the word originally leaked, a price point of £7.99/€9.99 was mentioned, although, that is not listed on the official site for the PC game. Digital distribution details have been provided, and it looks like Square Enix is choosing to ignore Steam’s service, and will instead make it available at the Square Enix online store. Much like the unknown need to deny upcoming content, I’m not sure about why content creators would want to limit the amount of stores allowed to offer the content being sold. I mean, it’s easy to understand why Square Enix might want to develop their own store, but cutting off access to it to consumers who use Steam seems like a “cutting off your nose to spite your face” move.

Instead of forcing people to use your service, why not try giving them incentive to do so?

Do live action trailers for video games work? I mean, sure the one Bethesda commissioned for Skyrim worked, but the anticipation for that game was at least as much as Assassin’s Creed, if not more. Of course, seeing such a trailer gives people ideas of seeing of a full blown movie for the title being advertised, and while that’s certainly a possibility for the AC universe, it’s almost misleading in a sense.

The live action trailer for Assassin’s Creed III, which naturally doesn’t show much in the way of gameplay, focuses on the some of the characters players will come across, while giving us an idea of what motivates the kind of rebellion necessary to start a revolution, or lead one to take on British Empire singlehandedly. For those of you wondering about the heavy amount of patriotism on display, Ubisoft released the live action Assassin’s Creed III trailer on the Fourth of July, and considering the subject matter AC3 addresses, that only makes sense. The text description that follows the trailer only adds to the “stand up for your freedom” mentality:

For freedom to rise, the oppressor must fall. Blood will be shed, sacrifices will be made, but the idea we all fight for will live on forever. Assassin’s Creed III shows us that the smallest action can spark the flame that ignites the revolution: a soldier fighting for his country; a priest struggling with his faith to follow his beliefs; a mother willing to kill to protect her children; a lone assassin, fighting for freedom and justice.

The strongest weapon against tyranny is the will of the individual… it’s time to RISE.

Reaction to the trailer seems to be a little tepid, at least on YouTube. The likes-to-dislikes ratio is 407 to 161. Is that because of the misleading nature of a live action video game trailer or are the British coming… to YouTube to dislike the subject matter?

We are only a few short weeks until The Dark Knight Rises debuts on the big screens, and the anticipation for Christopher Nolan’s return to the Batman universe is building quite rapidly. To further the mouthwatering, Warner Brothers has been releasing shorter TV Spots instead of extended trailers, as to keep the spoilage to a minimum. In their latest 30-second snippet, the footage focuses on Anne Hathaway’s Catwoman, which is never a bad thing.

The new trailer makes great use of her footage, while giving us an additional glimpse at the relationship between Batman and Catwoman. Teamwork for the win, apparently:

Over at /Film, they ran across a list of actors attending the European premiere, and at least one of the names listed is taken as confirmation that a certain character will be returning in TDKR. The names of the attendees:

Christian Bale, Tom Hardy, Anne Hathaway, Liam Neeson, Joseph Gordon-Levitt, Marion Cotillard, Cillian Murphy, Morgan Freeman and Michael Caine

You may have noticed Liam Neeson and Cillian Murphy, both of which stared in Batman Begins, the first journey in Nolan’s Batman trilogy. According to rumors, one of those two will be in the third installment, and it’s not Liam Neeson, which means, if accurate, we can expect to see another appearance from Murphy’s Scarecrow, something I find quite acceptable.

Another thing that’s acceptable? Anne Hathaway in Catwoman gear:

The saga that has gripped the world for the last 5-6 years is almost over! The final movie in the sparkly vampire series titled Twilight Saga: Breaking Dawn Part 2 (a mouthful, I know). This new trailer features some cool things like the vampires in the new world teaming up against the vampires from the old world. The team up also includes the werewolves picking sides.

From someone who doesn’t know much about the books or the movies, it seems that this one will be pretty action packed and fairly violent. The scene shown that has the vampires that include the Cullens and the werewolves charging the old world vampires looks pretty sweet. Check out the trailer below and some pretty funny Twitter reactions below:

When the second full-length trailer for The Dark Knight Rises hit, it was with the understanding that it was the last full-length trailer for the highly-anticipated third installment to Christopher Nolan’s Dark Knight series. But now, thanks to an exclusive trailer made for Nokia–is it weird to see such a popular movie partner with a struggling mobile device manufacturer?–we now have a new TDKR trailer for you to consume.

While there’s not a whole lot of new footage, there is some, as the 2:17 trailer tries its hardest to ramp up the tension surrounding the upcoming box office smash. There’s more focus on the Bane/Batman confrontation with a little bit of Anne Hathaway’s Catwoman running around for good measure. There’s also quite a bit of footage featuring Joseph Gordon-Levitt, as it’s becoming clear his character will play a substantial role in the movie. His character’s name in TDKR is John Blake, and the speculation remains that JGL could embody the Nightwing character, although that has been entirely unconfirmed, if not outright debunked.

For those who want to emerse themselves in the TDKR experience, as Geeks Are Sexy points out, there’s a nifty little site that allows users to design their own version of the Tumbler, aka, Nolan’s Batmobile.

Unfortunately, you have to login via Facebook before you’re allowed access to the Tumbler creation page. Do with that knowledge what you will. As you might expect, the new TDKR trailer didn’t escape the notice of Twitter, and the buzz is positive:
