The SciFi Channel opened a new site in an extremely crowded niche – gaming blogs – with the debut of its Fidgit blog.

Let’s hope Fidgit editor in chief Tom Chick continues to eschew middle of the road game reviews in order to avoid offending publishers. Fidgit could be a lot of fun if he does.

SciFi reached out to its favorite demographic of young men again with the introduction of Fidgit, where Chick has been diligently filling up the blog with comments on a variety of current gaming topics.

He was delighted that the new Age of Conan MMO (a decidedly not for kids title) held up under Memorial Day demand. Chick also bounced around on the Wii Fit and deemed its ghostly yoga trainer “telepathic.”

Chick’s spent years honing his writing style, and playing a lot of really awful games in the process. His stuff’s always worth a read, but we imagine SciFi will want to find another writer or two to partner on Fidgit and keep the content pumping.

Gaming naturally established a beachhead of interest on the Internet, where plenty of players look for as much game information as sites will provide. Right now, Fidgit’s draw will be its editor’s personality, with a conduit of SciFi promotion pushing visitors to the blog; we think ex-GameSpot editor Jeff Gerstmann would have been a natural for this, but Gerstmann is busy at work on GiantBomb for a summer debut in, what else, the gaming niche.
