Shopping search site TheFind announced today that it has overtaken Yahoo Shopping as the #2 site in the category (comparison shopping engines), citing comScore‘s numbers.

TheFind also says it has grown by 175% year-over-year according to ChannelAdvisor.

TheFind.com had close to 7 million unique monthly visitors in May, according to data from Compete. These numbers don’t reflect incredible growth for the year growth, but steadiness nonetheless:

These numbers are always hard to deliver with any certainty of accuracy, so you can be the judge of that, but either way, TheFind does seem to be attracting the minds of consumers.

"Our formula is pretty simple: make it easy for people to find the things they want to buy, and without bias, show them every available purchasing option," says TheFind CEO Siva Kumar. "When you do that, people come back because they both trust you and like what they find."

According to the company, TheFind.com and the shopping sites it powers saw between 2.3 and 2.7 average visits per visitor, as compared with 1.9 average visits per visitor for the next closest competitor.

Shopping search engine thefind.com has launched a shopping search Web site for finding products from eco-friendly retailers and brands. The site is inclusive of products that are organic, created using ecologically conscious processes, or those offered by retailers who are committed to preserving the environment.

According to a recent study from GfK Roper Consulting, 79 percent of consumers have indicated that a company’s environmental practices are important in making decisions about the products they purchase. Search results for TheFindGreen.com will include organic brands, green stores and eco- friendly products for all categories.

"It is essential that retailers acknowledge consumer concern and consciousness by offering products that support the preservation of the environment," said Siva Kumar, CEO of TheFind Inc. "With thousands of eco-friendly products already available to consumers, and the untold number of items continually being launched every day in this category, we also felt that it was essential to offer consumers a simple, easy way to find these products instantly."

"We’re extremely proud to launch this first of its kind search website, and believe that the green product catalog will only continue to grow as more companies add ecologically sound products to their portfolios."

In November, the company has plans to launch its newest Color For a Cause Program, which allows users to search for products of a certain color to support charitable organizations. It will start the series of partnerships with a green campaign supporting an environmental charity and will continue the program in the coming months with other national charities.

TheFind.com has reached into its pockets and located enough money to acquire Glimpse.com, a “high-fashion shopping Web site.” In semi-related news, “dog sweater” is one of TheFind’s current “hot searches.”

It’s probably best to focus on the business arrangement, however, and according to a press release, “Through this deal, TheFind gains a leading fashion destination site that identifies and delivers the hottest trends in women’s fashion, while Glimpse.com users gain access to TheFind’s unparalleled roster of online boutiques, specialty fashion retailers and leading brand stores.”

Siva Kumar, CEO of TheFind, also stated, “This acquisition further proves our ongoing commitment to providing the most engaging, efficient and fun online shopping search experience for our fashion-savvy consumers.”

Of course, as exuberant and chatty as both corporations were about the takeover, neither disclosed the purchase price. Yet “market share” and “people count” graphs at GigaOM and Frostfirebuzz.com both represent Glimpse as a virtual flatline, so it’s likely that not much cash passed hands.

For this reason, don’t be surprised if TheFind continues to buy up other sites. The company could have just been keeping mum, but a month and a half ago, TheFind received $15 million in financing, and it had no clear plans for the funds at the time.

TheFind.com offers “shopping search reinvented,” but with a fresh $15 million in its pockets, we may soon wind up with something that’s been re-reinvented. Then again, that $15 mil could be a sign that the company’s investors (who were led by Bain Capital Ventures) like things just the way they are.

That’s basically what Scott Friend, a partner at Bain, hinted at, though Friend employed some much more elegant phrasing. “Our extensive diligence on this investment and our past industry experience helped us conclude that TheFind.com is leading its category in developing the best consumer shopping experience for lifestyle goods,” he stated on TheFind Blog.

And there were no other signs in the post that TheFind has any revolutionary changes in store. That’s not a bad thing, though.

TheFind has been pretty successful up ‘til now – judging by an interview with the Red Herring, Bain considers Google to be its biggest competitor, and still says, “[T]hey do not do the browsing as well. The pictures are very small. It hasn’t been clear that Google has made it a priority… That’s good for TheFind.”

Also good for TheFind is Loren Baker’s description: “TheFind.com focuses on delivering accurate and comprehensive search results for lifestyle goods,” he notes, and later writing that the site has “has an efficient and visually-engaging format that fuels product discovery.”

TheFind.com, a discovery shopping search engine that debuted in 2006, has launched a shopping search engine that allows you to search for products being offered by tens of thousands of merchants that accept PayPal payments.

You can try out the PayPal search by going to PayPal.TheFind.com.

Similar to the search results that you’ll see on TheFind.com, the PayPal search results consist of catalog-like images, not just text links or thumbnail images of products.

PayPal merchants do not pay for their products to appear in the search results–which is much different than the traditional shopping search engines.

Traditional shopping search engines typically run on a pay per click business model, which can be costly for merchants.

Merchants who wish to showcase additional promotional or branding messages to Paypal customers can pay for placement in “sponsored” areas of the site. Merchants can add their products to PayPal.TheFind.com by going here.

TheFind.com originally debuted in October of 2006 as a “discovery shopping search engine”.

TheFind.com’s goal is to deliver comprehensive, relevant and visually compelling shopping experiences to users.

Unlike traditional comparison shopping search engines, TheFind.com provides the largest product selection, with an emphasis on leading styles, brands and stores–and the ability to browse and search for similar items

TheFind.com crawls the internet and uses its “Product Ranking Engine” technology to rank more than 170 million products from more than 500,000 online stores.

TheFind.com, is headquartered in Mountain View, California and is backed by venture capital firms Redpoint Ventures and Lightspeed Venture Partners.
