It’s just Jobs answering questions for an hour. Most people who have seen it have seen the portion of him handling the brazen insult disguised as a question with aplomb, humor, and insight. As a whole, it contains an amazing amount of vision and judgement that is still relevant, 16 years later.

Facebook confirmed that they were testing post edits.

“I can confirm it’s something we are testing, but don’t have any further details,” said a spokesperson.

Of course, it’s only a test and Facebook scraps plenty of tested features all the time. But this one needs to stick. Everyone wants this. You want this, right?

Facebook rolled out comment editing about a year ago.

Facebook is taking a page from the books of so many social networks before it and prompting users to complete their profiles upon logging in.

Here’s what you may see at the top of your homepage when you log in to Facebook (screenshot courtesy The Next Web). May see, because this is just a small test that Facebook is currently running:

As you can see, the prompt not only tells you how close you are to “completing your profile,” but it also allows you to answer the questions that Facebook asks right in the prompt, instead of taking you all the way to the information edit page on your Timeline.

Of course, Facebook isn’t the only social network that has asked users to make sure their profiles are as complete as possible. Google+ is still doing it on the right-hand side of the homepage:

LinkedIn has been doing it for years. They’ve just recently given you a cool little “Profile strength” meter inside your actual profile, though:

And ever since Twitter unveiled their new header photos, they’ve been pushing pretty hard for users to complete their profile by adding one of those.

The point is, this is a common thing among social networks. They want complete profiles. Complete profiles give them more information about their users, which can be used for a variety of tasks. Of course, that includes ad targeting.

But in the end, you want a complete profile, right? Otherwise, what’s the point of being on the network? Ok, so you don’t want to give Facebook your hometown. Fine. Just click the “x” on the prompt and forget about it.

Facebook is testing a new way to let users know which of their friends are online and available for chat.

We’ve seen some version of this indicator all over the place for years, but the newest home for Facebook’s green dot indicator seems to be directly in the news feed. Appearing right next to the users’ name inside a news feed story, Facebook’s green dot lets users know that the person is online and ready for messaging. Here’s what it looks like:

We spotted this test on an account that has the new news feed, and were unable to find a similar icon inside the mobile news feed. I’ve reached out to Facebook for comment and will update when I hear back.

UPDATE: Facebook confirms that they are running a limited test to put “presence dots” in the news feed. For now, that test is only for desktop.

You may recognize that little green dot from Facebook’s chat sidebar on both desktop and mobile. There, the green dot for availability is accompanied by a mobile device icon that signifies that the user has Facebook for iOS or Android downloaded, so they have the ability to see messages on their phones.

Way back in 2011, Facebook added the chat indicator next to users’ names on their profiles (the old profiles, way before Timeline).

The GED, or General Educational Development tests, were created in 1942 to measure the academic skills of U.S. soldiers who had left high school to join the military. Though the test has undergone revisions, the American Council on Education has maintained the tests as a way for those who did not graduate high school to gain an equivalent certification. Now, it seems that the move to modernize the test has resulted in higher costs, leading some states to abandon the GED.

According to an Associated Press report, 40 states are now looking into alternatives for the GED. This comes as the GED Testing Service, which runs the tests, has announced a new version of the GED set to launch in 2014. The new version of the test will be available only on computer and will cost $120 – double the cost of the current test. The new GED will also reportedly have tougher math and reading standards.

States, such as New York and New Hampshire, have already announced they will be switching to a new high school equivalency test, and others, such as Tennessee, New Jersey, and Massachusetts, Indiana, and Missouri are exploring other solutions to the rising test price. Competing equivalency tests are now making bids and educating states on their tests, some of which have paper versions and offer much lower prices.

It appears that Facebook’s paid messaging test has crossed the pond, as users in the U.K. are reporting that they are being given the opportunity to pay upwards of £10 to send messages to some users’ inboxes.

“The system of paying to message non-friends in their inbox is designed to prevent spam while acknowledging that sometimes you might want to hear from people outside your immediate social circle,” said Facebook in a statement.

This is an expansion on a months-old test that first originated in the U.S. back in December of 2012. Facebook began to test the “paid messages,” which allow users to pay a small fee to ensure that the messages they send reach the intended recipient’s inbox.

Note it’s their inbox that we’re shooting for – not the “other” folder. That’s Facebook’s version of a spam folder, and it houses messages deemed spammy or unimportant, based on a sorting algorithm.

The Telegraph reports that U.K. users are seeing a sliding pay scale for celebrities that quotes a message price based on their number of followers and message competition.

“We are testing a number of price points in the UK and other countries to establish the optimal fee that signals importance. Part of that test involves charging higher amounts for public figures, based on the number of followers they have. This is still a test and these prices are not set in stone,” said Facebook.

It’s likely that any message a random Facebook user sends to a celebrity with millions of followers or even someone that they simply don’t know and is way outside their network will be relegated to the “other” messages folder. With this test, Facebook is giving users a way to make sure that these messages reach the main inbox.

Although it could be seen as Facebook giving people a way to pay to spam you, Facebook has always said that it’s about reducing spam.

“Several commentators and researchers have noted that imposing a financial cost on the sender may be the most effective way to discourage unwanted messages and facilitate delivery of messages that are relevant and useful,” said Facebook when they first launched the test.

UPDATE: LinkedIn is now beginning to roll out the feature out to all English-speaking users. LinkedIn is currently testing user mentions, something that other networks like Facebook, Twitter, and Google+ have had for some time and that users rely on …

UPDATE: LinkedIn is now beginning to roll out the feature out to all English-speaking users.

LinkedIn is currently testing user mentions, something that other networks like Facebook, Twitter, and Google+ have had for some time and that users rely on quite heavily. Simply put, user mentions in posts let the people you’re talking about know that you’re talking about them.

If you’re currently part of the test, you’ll see a new tip box on your status update box. It’ll say “Now you can type a name to mention a member of company.”

Typing a name of a person or a company prompts a drop-down menu with choices arranged with the most likely suggestions (your actual connections) at the top.

Like Facebook, the mentions simply appear as links to the users’ profile inside the status. When someone mentions you in a post, you’ll receive a notification.

Apart from the aforementioned ability to tip people off to your statuses, mentions give users browsing their feeds and easier way to check out other users.

A LinkedIn spokesperson told The Next Web:

“We are currently testing the ability for members to directly mention each other in professional conversations on LinkedIn. This test is part of our ongoing efforts to help members further engage with their networks in meaningful ways across the LinkedIn platform.”

Facebook appears to be testing a new look for the search bar that more closely resembles the old white search box of old, as opposed to the box-less blue bar of the new Graph Search.

Those who have been switched over to Graph Search since Facebook launched the product back in January have probably recognized that the search box at the top of the page isn’t really a search box. It’s simply the words “search for people, places, and things” imposed on the blue bar.

This test puts the white search box back into the picture, while still maintaing the Graph Search functionality.

Like any Facebook test (and there are a lot going on at any given time), one can only speculate as to the company’s motivations behind it. Is Graph Search adoption falling short of Facebook’s expectations? Is it possible that the new Graph Search look isn’t prompting people to search – because it doesn’t really have a defined search box?

Maybe they’ve simply received some feedback that this new look is more aesthetically pleasing.

Either way, this appears to be a small test. We’ve reached out to Facebook for confirmation and will let you know when they get back to us.

And yes, we know that some people still don’t have Graph Search yet. These people still see the newer search bar, but without the Graph Search functionality. Graph Search, like the new news feed, and like the new Timeline, is being rolled out very slowly. Facebook says they want to get it right.

Facebook wants you to post more statuses and more photos/videos. Earlier this month, we told you about a test the company was running that pushed a notification to mobile devices asking users to “tell friends what’s on your mind” by posting an update.

Now, it looks like Facebook is looking for more ways to make sure people are still creating content on the site.

Facebook is testing a new button in its top blue bar that allows users to post a status or a photo/video quickly, from any page on the site.

Here are some screenshots of the test courtesy of Mashable, who first spotted it.

When you click it, a familiar lightbox pops up:

It’s important to note that the user who saw the test obviously doesn’t have Facebook Graph Search or the new look news feed – two new products that Facebook is rolling out very slowly. Has anyone who has Graph Search or the new news feed seen this test?

After rumors that Google was planning on launching an Amazon Prime competitor that would offer same-day delivery on a wide range of products, Google has done just that – in a small pilot test.

Google Shopping Express, as it’s called, is a local delivery service that Google says they hope will help people get items that they order online on the same day, at a low cost.

Google has just opened up a testing phase for a small number of people in the San Francisco Bay area. If you want to look into being a tester and you live in that area, you can sign up here. Tester will receive a free 6-month membership in the service which will allow them to have unlimited same-day delivery.

Google is launching the test with only a handful of retail partners, including big names like Target, Walgreens, American Eagle, Staples, Toys R Us, and Office Depot. They’ve also partnered with a couple local institutions like Blue Bottle Coffee and the Palto Alto Toy & Sport shop.

Google Shopping Express offers a single site complete with all of the products offered by the service. It’s all the local stores online in one place. Then, all you have to do is buy, select a particular delivery window, and wait.

As far as the eventual price and future of the service:

“We’re still working out our long-term pricing plan but early testers will get six months of free, unlimited same-day delivery. The pilot will expand as we work out the kinks, so please stay tuned,” says Tom Fallows, Google Shopping Express product director.

Facebook is currently testing a new look to chat on desktop – one that looks nearly identical to the way chat appears on the Facebook Messenger app.

The new design has blue and white chat bubbles, instead of the simple text that users currently see. According to AllFacebook, Facebook looks to be testing the new desktop chat for a small set of international users.

Here’s what it looks like:

Compare that to the current format:
