A+ certification is a vendor-neutral certification that certifies the competency of service professionals in the computer industry. It is for anyone who wants an internationally recognized credential as a competent computer service professional.

When Calling “Technical Support” You Should Also Reach “Customer Service”

Technical support has long been the department in corporations that offers guidance when end-users have difficulty with mechanical or technological processes. Most of us call a tech support department to ask questions about our computer, our VCR, our satellite dish or perhaps our Internet service. For those of you who manage a technical support team, let me make a gentle reminder that tech support should also provide customer service.

The Intel Xeon processor introduces a new technology called Hyper-Threading (HT) that, to the operating system, makes a single processor behave like two logical processors. When enabled, the technology allows the processor to execute multiple threads simultaneously, in parallel within each processor, which can yield significant performance improvement. We set out to quantify just how much improvement you can expect to see.

Apache Shared Modules in Delphi

Back in Issue 69 (May, 2001) of The Delphi Magazine in Apache Shared Modules, I looked at the Apache Web server running on Linux and how Kylix could be used to write CGI applications and also Apache shared modules or DSOs (the main thrust of the article). Do Applications Truly Erode?

It is essential to remember that for any IT project, an environment or infrastructure needs to be created to implement the technology. People must be brought together into project teams that consist of users, developers, support people, training, process communications, marketing, sales and many others. Armoring Solaris

Firewalls are one of the fastest growing technical tools in the field of information security. However, a firewall is only as secure as the operating system it resides upon. This article is a continuation of the original Armoring Solaris article, focusing on building a minimized Solaris 8 64-bit for CheckPoint FW-1 NG firewall. This article does not include an updated script for the automated securing of the new installation, as there was in Armoring Solaris. Instead, we will be using Solaris Security Toolkit (JASS). This is a new tool developed and released by Sun for the secure deployment of the Solaris platform. In otherwords, I’m not going to develop a tool to automate the secure build since that tool is already out there.

5 Key Factors to Consider When Selecting an Outplacement Firm

With today’s economy, more and more companies are finding themselves faced with the situation of having to reduce headcount to remain competitive. Here are five key factors to consider when selecting an outplacement firm if your company is ever faced with a workforce reduction.

1. Types of Services Provided.
One decision you will need to make regarding outplacement is whether your displaced workers would benefit most from group or individual one-on-one outplacement. For the majority of outplaced employees, if your budget permits, individual outplacement is the preferred option since it provides one-on-one support that will help them move forward more quickly than they would on their own.
