Facebook and USA Today are hosting an “Ad Meter” at facebook.com/sports, where people can go to express who had the best and worst Super Bowl ads by casting votes. The voting starts at kickoff, and runs until 6PM ET on Tuesday. Results will be announced later that night.

“While the USA TODAY Ad Meter has historically been the authority on what brands had the best, most popular commercials, this year, USA TODAY partnered with Facebook to let the more than 800 million global Facebook users share commentary online and view their favorites even after the Super Bowl Champs leave the field,” a representative tells WebProNews.

“Designed to marry the industry authority of USA Today’s Ad Meter with the social engagement of Facebook, the collaboration will open up how people discuss and rate iconic Super Bowl ads by putting consumers at the center of this long-standing annual event,” she adds. “We’ll be interested to see who reigns supreme this year based on the social vote!”

It’s still early as of the time of this writing (kickoff isn’t until tomorrow evening), but may of the ads have already been going around online. Have any stuck out to you so far as being particularly good or bad? Let us know in the comments. Then after kickoff, let Facebook know.

Apparently, Best Buy thinks Silicon Valley inventors make the best spokespeople, and are willing to bank on that at this year’s Super Bowl.

Best Buy’s Super Bowl advertisement, which will appear during the third commercial break of the 1st quarter of Sunday’s big game, will feature tech inventors like camera phone pioneer Phillippe Kahn and Instagram co-founder Kevin Systrom. Although well informed readers like yourself might recognize those names, it’s safe to say that the general public may not.

This marks a definite shift from previous years of advertising. You remember Best Buy’s big Super Bowl spot from last year right? The Ozzy Osbourne / Justin Bieber commerical that has Ozzy wondering “what the f*ck’s a Bieber?” Here it is, to jog your memory:

“Big brands like to hire celebrities,” Best Buy Marketing Chief Drew Panayiotou told Bloomberg. “We looked at everyone from George Clooney to Stephen Colbert. We believe the inventors are more than enough. I give those 125 million viewers a lot of credit. I think they’ll appreciate the story.”

Best Buy was all set to air a celeb-heavy ad, common practice for the high-cost real estate of a Super Bowl commercial. But apparently, the outpouring of tributes to the late Steve Jobs that seemed to dominate the latter part of 2011 changed something. It spurred the idea of a tech-themed commercial.

The ad is not meant to be funny – focusing more on the story of how technology is brought to the consumer. It’ll be going up against Budweiser and M&Ms in its block.

Best Buy will be fighting in a Super Bowl ad space filled with blockbuster film trailers, Seinfeld reunions, vampires, Star Wars dogs, and a Ferris Bueller rehash starring Matthew Broderick. Will it make an impact? We’ll just have to wait and see.

Waiting until the Super Bowl to release your company’s Super Bowl ad is, apparently, so last year. Several companies have released their ads early. The latest company to jump on this peculiar bandwagon is Lexus. The company has released their first ever Super Bowl ad almost a week before game time.

The ad, titled “The Beast,” is for the 2013 Lexus GS. Check it out below, and let us know what you think in the comments. Personally, I’m excited. I’d love to know what they made that bumper out of. It’s not every day you see a car punch through a steel barrier without a scratch.

Last week, a ten second clip of Matthew Broderick recreating a scene from Ferris Bueller’s Day Off led to speculations that there could be a sequel in the works – a revelation that thrilled some fans of the old film and disappointed others.

It was soon revealed that the teaser clip didn’t actually have anything to do with a sequel, but was simply a teaser for a Super Bowl ad from Honda. We reported that the ad would indeed star Matthew Broderick and involved the recreation of at least a few scenes from the original film.

Well, now it’s here and available to watch in its entirety, via the Honda YouTube channel. Take a look at “Matthew’s Day Off,” which starts with Broderick calling in sick – to his agent.

To celebrate the launch of the all-new 2012 CR-V, Honda brought Ferris Bueller’s Day Off back in a big game commercial. We cast Matthew Broderick as himself, skipping out on a day of acting work and living it up in his all-new CR-V. Relive movie history with Honda’s fresh twist and wonderful homage to this ’80s classic.

Think you’re a true fan of Ferris Bueller’s Day Off? We hid over two dozen references to the movie throughout the commercial. Some are obvious, some are VERY subtle. See how many you can find.

How many did you spot? The “life goes by fast” quote? The parade? The scummy valet and his car jump?

I think it’s a pretty good ad, sure to be one of the most-talked about on Super Bowl Sunday. However, there’s already some blowback coming from viewers of the ad. Here are the top-voted comments on Youtube:

Thanks for ruining my childhood dreams, with a crappy SUV.

Very glad I got to post the first comment…I can’t explain how disappointed I am. Don’t know if I’m just an idiot but for some reason I thought the 10 second teaser was a trailer for a Ferris Bueller 2, not a stupid Honda commercial. At this point I just can’t believe Matthew Broderick would allow anyone to use the priceless movie to advertise a car. Wow.

What do you think? Childhood-ruiner or good, nostalgic advert? Let us know in the comments.

On Thursday, a mysterious clip starring a gray-haired Matthew Broderick appeared on YouTube. In the clip, Broderick opens the shades and says “How can I handle work on a day like today?” It’s immediately followed by a date, which happens to be 2/5/11, or Super Bowl Sunday.

This description of the video on YouTube says:

We hate to be such a tease, but on a day like today, we just have to. Stick it out until the Super Bowl, or take a “day off” on Monday and catch the big reveal.

Naturally, this little teaser created a lot of buzz on the internet yesterday, with many wondering if it meant that Ferris Bueller sequel was in the works.

While that may in fact be true, this little clip is simply a teaser for a Super Bowl ad – for Honda. Jalopnik reports that Honda’s ad will recreate many parts of the the classic film, including the famous Ferrari-jumping scene where the two shady valets take Cameron’s dad’s car out for a joyride. But this time, instead of a Ferrari, it will be a Honda CR-V.

Not only will the ad star Matthew Broderick, but it’s also directed by The Hangover‘s Todd Phillips.

I guess, in theory, they could announce some sort of plans for a sequel as part of the Honda Super Bowl ad. Maybe the ad is just a tester for public enthusiasm for a Ferris Bueller reunion. But that’s probably just wishful thinking (or a terrible idea, depending on who you ask).

Audi has officially thrown its hat into the ring to compete for this year’s best Super Bowl ad, releasing “Vampire Party” to the YouTube masses more than a week before the big game.

The ad is now available because Facebook users completed Audi’s “Race The Light” contest, where the company released the ad as a 60-piece puzzle and fans worked together to solve it. Now it’s unlocked and I must say, pretty damn cool.

Maybe it’s just because the ad features the amazing Echo & The Bunnymen track “The Killing Moon,” but I’d say this will become one of the fan favorites during Super Bowl XLVI. The ad features the new Audi S7 and one of its defining features – LED headlights that operate at 5,500 Kelvin and “produce the closest recreation of daylight available.” There’s where you get into the Vampire killing part. Take that, Edward:

“Given the power of the Super Bowl platform, we wanted to create an entertaining spot that clearly focused on our LED headlights — one of our key product attributes – while also sparking conversation about whether or not it’s time for us to move on from the omnipresent vampire trend into something new and even more exciting,” Audi of America CMO Scott Keogh said.

So Audi not only wants to sell 2013 S7′s, but also wants to drive a stake through the sparkly vampire obsession currently glamouring our culture.

Proceed, Audi, proceed.

E-Trade announced it will feature a new Super Bowl commercial this year, marking the fifth anniversary of its well-known E-Trade Baby campaign.

CMO Nick Utton says, “The Baby has become an iconic brand ambassador that has enabled us to capture the imaginations of investors and effectively showcase the benefits of our investment solutions in a memorable and entertaining way.”

During and after the game, the campaign’s online presence will include:

A new “viral” video featuring “Top Ten Baby Moments”

Real-time updates from the Talking Baby on Facebook and Twitter

Redesigned YouTube Brand Channel

I always like when a brand declares its video “viral” before it’s even released.

The E-Trade baby also made an appearance on the pre-game show for the AFC Championship game, leading to E-Trade becoming a trending topic on Twitter. Deadspin has it posted.

The Super Bowl is getting closer, and of course that means there will be new GoDaddy ads on the way. There will reportedly be two of them this year.

At least one of them is on YouTube, but it is still unlisted. It can be viewed, but only by those who have a link to it. Hat tip to Laura Stampler for providing one.

The ad is for .co domains.

Here it is:

The past year has been a rather controversial one the company – even more so than usual – thanks to the killing of an elephant and SOPA flip flopping.

It will be interesting to see how the company’s reputation evolves throughout this year.
