A viral video is one that becomes popular through the process of Internet sharing, via social media, sharing sites, or good ‘ole email. Everyday we highlight some of the best that are currently viral and some that are trending that way.

Today’s videos feature an short movie about how our clothes are made, an old lady who’s more badass than most of you (and me), and a one man Street Fighter match.

Ok, Ok, so it was a FAKE porno. Still, pretty funny to realize that she actually did this at some point in her life.

I wonder how many times in a row he tried to beat himself?

Fact: Robin Williams with beard > Robin Williams without beard. Oh yeah, it’s important kids learn about conflict. CONFLICT.

So that’s how clothes are made. If I’d known before, I would have been more interested

At least once in my life I’m going to wake someone up by slapping them in the face with a pizza.

If you’re a Pat Sajak fan, go ahead and watch the whole thing. If you just want to hear Sajak talk about getting drunk with Vanna White in the good ol’ days – Skip to 1:05.

I’m sure the cameraman appreciated having a real gun pointed at him during the reenactments in this feature.

We can only hope a strung out Charlie Sheen will make an appearance in a police station when Ferris Bueller returns for the Superbowl.

It’s hard to believe Sesame Street has been on the air since 1969. Needless to say, our society has grown and evolved since the show originally released. Now, Cookie Monster is whacking out on vegetables (which this author still cringes at). One topic which has been brought to the limelight recently is how the show has handled the topic of breastfeeding. More specifically, how the show has completely axed breast feeding from segments which show babies being fed.

This all started on a blog titled, boobietime.blogspot.com (hold your snickers), where an astute mother discovered how the act of baby feeding had changed on Sesame Street from the 70′s, 80′s and into the 90′s.

She found clips of breastfeeding occurring in episodes in the 70′s and 80′s, but sometime during the 90′s the show started showing the bottle option exclusively. The article was posted at the end of December which led to an online petition in the beginning of January, titled: Bring breastfeeding back to Sesame Street.

The petition has a signature goal of 7,500, which it looks to hit. I started this article, went to lunch and came back to see the number of signatures grow from 4,700 to eclipsing the 5,000 mark. Here’s a description of what the petition is looking to gain: “Please take a moment to sign this petition to bring breastfeeding back to Sesame Street. Back in the 70′s and 80′s nursing was tastefully shown on the show but now they have replaced their nursing videos with bottles. Please note…We are not asking Sesame Street to remove bottle feeding. We are asking that both ways of feeding babies be shown as normal. If we normalize breastfeeding in our community, especially with our children, we can help raise a generation of breastfeeders which will support our economy, make for healthier children and lessen the risk of breast cancer for many nursing mamas!”

The original blogger found these clips of breastfeeding being shown on the program during the 70′s and 80′s…

…and here’s the latest version of the subject of babies, which released sometime in the 90′s.

As a 27 year old male I don’t think I could be anymore neutral towards the subject of breastfeeding. I don’t hold any negative connotations towards it, and wish these online petitioners the best. What I’m wondering is what occurred in the 90′s that turned us all into such prudes? When it comes to the more discrete aspect of our bodies, I tend to follow the belief of Kramer from Seinfeld. We all got em’.

It was a big deal when Sesame Street came to YouTube (it came to Hulu and iTunes at the same time). These online channels provide worldwide access for children everywhere to enjoy Sesame Street content that many of us grown-ups enjoyed when we were young, only on a variety of devices. As the father of a young child who always wants to play with my smartphone, I can certainly appreciate this.

Luckily, we didn’t visit the Sesame Street YouTube channel yesterday, as we may have had to have a conversation I’m not ready to have yet.

The channel was hacked, and the videos of muppets teaching things were replaced by apparently hardcore porn. Classy, hackers. Classy.

According to TheNextWeb, which broke the news, it was about 22 minutes before Google pulled the content. With YouTube being the second largest search engine (as Google often likes to remind us), I’m guessing that was more than enough time for some children to see some stuff.

Last night, the SesameWorkshop Twitter account tweeted out the following:

That leads to a Facebook post, saying:

We apologize for any inconvenience our audience may have experienced today on ourSesame Street YouTube channel. Our channel was compromised and we are presently working with YouTube/Google to restore our original content. We always strive to provide age-appropriate content for our viewers and hope to resolve this problem quickly.

Sophos senior technology consultant Graham Cluley shows a screenshot of what the channel’s profile info was changed to. This includes the user name: Mredxwx. This is a real YouTube user, who has since uploaded this video claiming it was not him:

The hacked profile info also included the message: “WHO DOESN’T LOVE PORN KIDS? RIGHT! EVERYONE LOVES IT! IM MREDXWX AND MY PARTNER MRSUICIDER91 ARE HERE TO BRING YOU MANY NICE CONTENT! PLEASE DON’T LET SESAME STREET TO GET THIS ACCOUNT BACK KIDS PLEASE…LET ME AND MRSUICIDER91 HAVE IT AND WE GONNA MAKE ALL THE AMERICA HAPPY!”

Sigh.

Who would have believed this? Apparently, suggesting that characters from America’s favorite children’s show should form a homosexual union sparks a lively debate. Go figure.

Yesterday, an online petition emerged on popular petition site Change.org. The petition ask supporters to sign in hopes that their voices could inspire the first on-air gay puppet marriage. “Let Bert & Ernie Get Married on Sesame Street” sent the internet into a frenzy yesterday and it doesn’t seem to be dying down at all.

We told you about the petition yesterday, and in that article we discussed the various motivators behind such a petition. Of course, the rumor of Bert & Ernie as a gay couple has been around for decades. Two men living together for years with no spouses, sharing a room together? Best friends or lovers – you decide.

The people behind the petition said that the marriage would do wonders to educated America’s children about tolerance and to show LGBT kids that “they are beautiful and their lives are worth living.”

Comments that we received fell all over the spectrum. Some asked whether or not children that young understand sexuality and gender preference. Others said that it was the parents’ job to teach tolerance. One commenter suggested that Sesame Street simply needs to give the two their own rooms to quell the rumor.

In the wake of all of the public comment about the petition, Sesame Workshop, the non-profit behind Sesame Street, issued a statement on their Facebook page. Sesame Workshop has issued statements on this issue before, saying that Bert & Ernie are puppets, not humans, and sexual orientation shouldn’t come into the discussion.

Seasame Street’s Twitter account linked to the Facebook statement –

Here’s the official statement –

Bert and Ernie are best friends. They were created to teach preschoolers that people can be good friends with those who are very different from themselves.

Even though they are identified as male characters and possess many human traits and characteristics (as most Sesame Street Muppets™ do), they remain puppets, and do not have a sexual orientation.

Pretty much echoes all previous statements. It’s important to note, I guess, that saying they have “no sexual orientation” still isn’t the same as saying they are heterosexual.

Bert & Ernie is a trending topic on Twitter. Check out some reaction -

UPDATE: Sesame Street responds to the online petition.

Bert & Ernie, America’s beloved puppet best friends, have been around for decades. And for much of that time, some have speculated that the Sesame Street duo represent a gay couple.

So, here’s the evidence that leads some to this conclusion: Bert & Ernie are two men, living together for an extended period of time. Although they sleep in separate beds, they sleep in the same room – kind of a Lucy/Ricky scenario. Many point to specific mannerisms that might give away a specific sexual orientation, but their existence is subject to debate.

And they love each other. Deniers say that it is a best friend type of camaraderie, supporters of the gay-couple belief would say that the characters “conduct themselves in the same loving, discreet way that millions of gay men, women and hand puppets do.”

And then you have these kinds of things that make it seems like Sesame Street has been hinting at something for a long time now -

While gay marriage supporters have, for quite some time, used the example of Bert & Ernie as a couple as a sort of rally cry for their cause, one online petition thinks that allowing Bert & Ernie to finally marry would be a great thing for LGBT rights.

Hosted on the popular change.org online activism platform, the petition “Let Bert & Ernie Get Married on Sesame Street” was started by one woman and now has over 1,100 signatures. it was started exactly one week ago today.

Here’s what the petition letter says:

In this horrific age of LGBT kids taking their own lives, they need to know that they ARE BEAUTIFUL and their lives are worth living. Aside from those that are committing suicide, the bullies that facilitate these tragedies need to learn that homophobia is NOT okay. They need to know that acceptance of their fellow human beings would indeed plant a seed of peace that will reverberate throughout the world. We are not asking that Sesame Street do anything crude or disrespectful. Only that they allow Bert & Ernie to marry or even add a transgender character to the show. It can be done in a tasteful way. Let us teach tolerance of those that are different. Let Sesame Street and PBS Kids be a big part in saving many worthy lives

The cause has also launched a Facebook page.

The Sesame Workshop has denied that Bert & Ernie were created as a gay couple, saying that “Bert and Ernie, who’ve been on Sesame Street for 25 years, do not portray a gay couple, and there are no plans for them to do so in the future. They are puppets, not humans. Like all the Muppets created for Sesame Street, they were designed to help educate preschoolers. Bert and Ernie are characters who help demonstrate to children that despite their differences, they can be good friends.”

The rumor gained steam in 2010 when the official Sesame Street Twitter account (which posts messages from its characters) said this, speaking as Bert:

Ever notice how similar my hair is to Mr. T’s? The only difference is mine is a little more ‘mo,’ a little less ‘hawk.’

Some said that the “mo” was a clear reference to “homosexual.” Are the makers of Sesame Street giving sly hints about Bert & Ernie via Twitter? Here are some recent tweets, you decide -

Update: Cookie Monster himself is appearing in today’s doodle at Google.com.

Original Article: If you are a regular visitor to the Google home page, you have probably noticed that Big Bird’s legs have taken the place of the ls in Google’s logo (in the US). Sesame Street’s 40th anniversary is coming up on November 10th, and Google has announced that it will be featuring a different character for each day until then.

They haven’t wasted anytime with the characters yet though, because depending on what region you are in, you may have seen different characters already (and not necessarily all from Sesame Street). For example, Google.co.uk has a doodle up for Wallace and Gromit, who are apparently also celebrating their 20th anniversary. Barry Schwartz at Search Engine Roundtable has provided a list of all of the different Google properties that are showing children’s programming-related doodles and their corresponding images.

Google discussed the series of doodles in a post to the company blog today. The company says Sesame Street provided them with the following video as well, which features Cookie Monster singing a song, part of which is to the tune of "Old McDonald" and has the lyrics "with a Google Google here, and a Google Google there…"

The clip has nothing to do with the Google we know today. It is from 1982. It’s an appropriate find for the week, however, and Google is no doubt proud to show it off.

"Many Googlers grew up on Sesame Street, watching the colorful, seamless blend of education and entertainment. We’re delighted to have partnered with Sesame Street to create this special series of doodles, particularly since we share the same values of education, diversity and accessibility," says Marissa Mayer, Google’s VP, Search Products & User Experience.

Keep your eyes peeled for a week’s worth of more Sesame Street doodles at Google.com. Hopefully they will get Guy Smiley involved. He’s the legendary Sesame Street game show host.

YouTube, Hulu, and iTunes have a received a high honor: the "Sesame Street" stamp of approval. This much-loved PBS program is in the process of establishing and/or expanding its presence on each of these sites.

Let’s start with what might be the least interesting effort. Reuters reports, "On Apple Inc’s iTunes store, people can download full episodes from season 35 and onward for $1.99. . . . Sesame Workshop will get 70 percent of the revenue in the iTunes deal, but the number of viewers is not likely to be a big one at first, said Terry Fitzpatrick, Sesame’s vice president of distribution."

There are, after all, early DVD sets available if people really want to pay. And $2 feels a little steep for a show that doesn’t make its viewers deal with commercials. So on to the free stuff.

The "Sesame Street" YouTube channel is already home to 116 different clips. Most seem to be available in high quality, and thanks to the new push, more should be added as time goes by.

Hulu‘s "Sesame Street" page is in a similar state of development. Highlights include an opera-singing orange and Natalie Portman dressed as an elephant.

As my coworker John Vinson noted, it’s hard not to watch this stuff without smiling. We’d humbly suggest that you send the links to any friends with kids, and for that matter, maybe set them aside for some home viewing, as well.
