Rock the Vote says the goal of the partnership with Microsoft is to reach voters under 30. Xbox Live is the largest online social network connected to the television, with 12 million members.

"Xbox is a natural partner to help us reach out to youth voters," said Heather Smith, executive director, Rock the Vote.

"To realize our goal of registering 2 million young Americans by this fall, we need to go where young Americans are, and there’s no doubt in our minds that many are on Xbox 360 and Xbox Live."

Xbox will have a presence at both the Democratic and Republican conventions, promoting the Rock the Vote partnership and reaching out to delegates about creating a safer entertainment experience on Xbox 360 and Xbox Live using parental controls.

The multimedia partnership will include co-branded public service announcements and an Internet campaign on Comcast’s networks including E!, Versus, The Golf Channel, TV One, Comcast SportsNet, PBS Kids and G4.

Comcast and Rock the Vote will be registering people online through these network’s Web sites as well as at Comcast.net, OurTimetoVote.com and Comcast Latino, the Spanish language Web site at Terra.com All the sites will use Rock the Vote’s online voter registration tool.

Rock the Vote and Comcast hope to register 2 million young people before the presidential election in November.

"The country is finally noticing what Rock the Vote has known for years, there is a young voter movement building that is changing the political landscape of our country," said Heather Smith, Executive Director, Rock the Vote "With Comcast’s help, we are confident that we will see young voter turnout increase for the third election in a row."

During Rock the Vote’s events at both the Democratic and Republican Conventions, E! will provide coverage and the anchors will also promote the Web sites were people can register online to vote.

Comcast has 24.7 million cable subscribers, 14.1 million high-speed Internet customers and 5.2 million voice customers.
 

The "DemROCKracy Band Competition" invites any artists with a MySpace page to install a widget that allows users to register to vote. The goal is to register as many voters as possible.

The first 25 bands to register 150 people will be featured in a custom Rock the Vote Playlist on TouchTunes digital jukeboxes at thousands of locations nationwide. The winner of the competition will open the Rock the Vote’s Ballot Bash concert at the Democratic National Convention in Denver on Monday, August 25. The winner will also be featured on Rock the Vote’s homepage.

In addition the winner will receive a Gibson SG Standard Guitar, which is valued at about $1,500 along with an SG Reissue bass guitar. Two runners-up will receive a Gibson SG Special guitar.

The competition runs through July and ends on Thursday, August 14. The top three bands that have registered the most voters will be placed on the MySpace/Rock the Vote homepage for fans to choose the winner.
