Earlier this week, Amazon announced that they had ordered up a pilot for Zombieland, a TV series based on the incredibly popular movie of the same name.

When the pilot makes its way to Prime Instant Video, user feedback will determine whether or not it receives orders for a full series run. It will have some competition, going up against six other comedy pilots.

And the series just got its first poster. It’s familiar, while still being different. What do you think?

“Zombieland will strive to break the rules—action, adventure, thrills, chills and laughs and all packed into a half hour format,” said creator Paul Wernick. “This is not your average show but Amazon is not your average network.”

Zombieland the series features the same characters from the film – Columbus, Little Rock, Tallahassee, etc. But it features new actors Tyler Ross, Izabela Vidovic, and Kirk Ward, respectively. Some of the film’s original creative team in on board, however, including writers Rhett Reese and Paul Wernick. It’s being directed by Tucker and Dale vs Evil‘s Eli Craig.

You can almost smell the walkers coming can’t you? Only one more month, and The Walking Dead will return to AMC after a long (but not too long) break.

The network released a new poster for the show’s return today:

Here’s a video of the cast looking ahead, AMC put out last month, in case the poster isn’t enough to get you excited:

There’s a possibility the show will start going downhill after this season, so hopefully it will be a crowd pleaser. News recently came out that AMC is parting ways with showrunner Glen Mazzara. Of course, there’s always the possibility that they’ll manage to find an adequate (or dare I say even better) replacement.

While we’re firmly in the grips of The Amazing Spider Man’s reboot, it’s never to early to plan for the next cinematic tentpole event, and when you pair the names Christopher Nolan and Batman, you know you’re in for a blast of a time at the theaters. Nolan’s next trip to the Gotham universe is a little over two weeks away, and to keep the anticipation at a healthy buzz, Warner Brothers has not been shy about the release of promotional content, all in an effort to keep the buzz going.

So when you see three new posters for The Dark Knight Rises this close to the release, it shouldn’t come as a surprise. While Christian Bale’s Batman is once again front and center, Batman stories are only as strong as the bad guy being featured. With that in mind, it’s easy to understand why Nolan and Warner Brothers are giving the Bane character so much focus with the promotional content. As you can see from the lead image, Bane content is a hot item right now, with not one, but two posters focusing on the highly-anticipated villan:

Click for larger image

There’s also a new poster for Bale’s Batman, and it looks better than the first poster Warner Brothers released:

Click for larger image

In fact, some are speculating the poor reaction to the initial poster is what motivated this late release of new TDKR content:

In fact, reactions to each set of images were so polarized, there’s little surprise that the theatrical poster has more or less been replaced by the later offerings. And still, with just over two weeks left to release, Warner Bros. isn’t done yet.

Considering that, are these new posters better in the sense of what you were expecting? Would you have one of these hanging in your man cave?

Saul Bass is a graphic designer responsible for some of the most iconic images and logos in the history of entertainment. From the AT&T globe to the title sequence from Tom Hanks’ “Big,” you can see his influences everywhere. United Way, Dixie, General Mills, and Continental Airlines all have his particular style attributed to their logos.

Alex Clark from Folkstone, England decided to pay tribute to Bass when he did a redesign of sorts to some classic Star Wars posters. The southerner created 5 posters to celebrate some of the most iconic characters from some of the most iconic movies of all time. Check out his profile at Red Bubble where you can purchase a poster of any of the prints for around $26.

Viktor Hertz created this set of clever images that depict pictogram characters in movie settings. He takes the same images often seen on restrooms, roadways, and instruction manuals and crossbreeds them with classic cinema. Film is often considered one of the most universal of all art forms. Millions flock to theaters every weekend, while maybe only a few thousand make there way into an art gallery. Pictograms use a universal language to reach across culture and language barriers to convey meaning to everyone. Combining these two make for some cool posters that instantly tell you the story seen in the film:

Victor’s message to fans, posted on flickr:

This is an ongoing project, that just got started. So, count on lots of additional work in this project, in the future.

What I do, is that I make a quite simple movie poster, including one or a few pictograms, displaying the theme of the film. Either original pictograms combined, or modified ones, to fit with the film. As the title poster says, I try to bring a twist to it, and not get too simple. I can sometimes feel that all these minimalist movie posters get a bit boring, a bit too simple, with just an object from the film and the title underneath it. That is something I try to avoid, so please, let me know if I go there. My e-mail is currently viktorhertz@hotmail.com.

Big thanks to www.thenounproject.com, who provide a great collection of pictograms. I visit them more often than YouTube, these days.

Hope you like the posters!

All the best,
Viktor

What do you do when the zombies invade your office? The natural reaction would be to cower in fear and be eaten alive. But there are those out there that refuse to go quietly when the walkers come. Those that will grab any implement of destruction available to them and fight off the hoard for as long as they can. In an office setting this is a little tricky. Not much around that can do very much damage. Sure, hot coffee could be thrown in their face but that won’t stop them. Sure, you could grab a handfull of thumbtacks and hurl them in the zombies direction, but that will only make them mad. We desk jockeys are more or less doomed when the undead ones come.

It seems unfair when we are the ones most concerned and most interested in the zombie apocalypse. Sadly, all we have is the ability to pretend we would all be badasses when the world ends and we’re the only ones left. So grab your stapler and your binder and join me in a little fantasy zombie violence. If you’re a weekend warrior zombie hunter this set of stationery is for you:

This set comes from razorfish, and surprisingly a lot of people went into its creation. Creative Director Jacques Pense from Frankfurt, Germany gets most of the credit. Isn’t that always the way with office work?

These posters imagine some recent instant classic films as if they were made in a different era, compete with actors and graphics from cinema’s golden age. These posters were created my graphic artist Peter Stults of New York.

Peter Sellers was the iconic comedian of his day, just like Bill Murray has been over the past few decades. The comparison in this poster is perfect.

Who would have been better as Corbin Dallas. Bruce Willis did a great job, but Sean Connery is the obvious choice if this film was made in the 60′s

Jaws as the Terminator. This is all the special effects they could do back then. A gigantic man with a metal mouthpiece.

This is interesting. We have 2 of the Rat Pack on this poster and then the wild card in Jack Lemmon. Perhaps he is supposed to be Zach Galifianakis’ character? He was always good at that sort of odd ball humor. Notice Muhammed Ali playing the role of Mike Tyson.

From the artists page on Behance:

Awhile back a friend of mine forwarded me a site (http://hartter.blogspot.com/2009/11/misc.html) where artist Sean Hartter made posters of films that, title wise, we were familiar with, but there was a slight difference; they were remade as if they belonged to a different era or a different genre, the name of the movie was there, but the actors were different, the style was different, and I loved the concept. So I went forward with this theme; what if movies we were all familiar with were made in a different slice of time? Who would be in it? Who would direct it? So here we are…
