Whether you love the new Timeline or despise its very creation, you’re getting it, like it or not. Recently SodaHead.com surveyed its users and the results are predominately not in favor for the Timeline.

SodaHead.com is the world’s largest opinion based community and its recent survey found that 70 percent of those responding to the poll were not in favor of Timeline; they voted that Facebook “lose it”.

Only 20 percent of those polled were in favor of the Timeline and a very small 10 percent claimed to not use Facebook at all.

The poll found users between the ages of 18 and 24 like Timeline and only a finite 10 percent of users 65 and over thought the change was “neat”. Broken into genders, men and women had exactly the same opinion. 77 percent dislike it, while 23 percent like it.

In countries like India and Brazil Facebook is growing drastically; the poll found users outside of America are more welcoming of the new Timeline.

Facebook experienced a drop in traffic, but thanks to foreign traffic the social media network is still growing and shows no signs of stopping anytime soon.

While most of us come and leave this world with little fanfare, there are those among us whose passing, especially if untimely, captures hearts and headlines around the world. The death of a celebrity, or prominent public figure, just does something to people. A death can stir up fond memories, extreme hatred, or obsessive curiosity.

Rank the famous deaths of 2011.

Every year we’re shocked by some of the deaths we read about, and 2011 was no different. This year we saw the deaths of Steve Jobs, Osama bin Laden, Kim Jong-il, Andy Rooney, Jack Kevorkian, Betty Ford, Heavy D, “Macho Man” Randy Savage, Amy Winehouse, Joe Frazier, among others.

If someone was to ask you to name the top 10 famous deaths of 2011… could you do it? It’s tougher than you might imagine.

With this in mind, FamousDead.com has released a poll where you can rank the famous deaths of 2011. To contribute, you simply have to drag and drop the images in order 1-10.

Once you’ve made your selections just hit submit and you’ll be taking to a page that shows your top 10 famous deaths of 2011. You can also share your top 10 via Facebook. Please note that you must be logged into Facebook in order to save your votes, this is so we can assure that everyone only casts one top 10 list.

FamousDead will close submissions during the first week of 2012, and will also reveal the top 10 deaths of 2011.

Note: This poll was created by FamousDead.com, a website owned by iEntry, which also publishes WebProNews.

I don’t know about you, but if my job function included “risk management” I’d more than likely make sure that risks to the company’s reputation were taken into consideration–wouldn’t you?

Well, according to The Conference Board Reputation Risk Research Working Group and a survey of 148 risk management executives of major corporations, only 49% said that the management of reputation risk was highly integrated with their enterprise risk management (ERM) function.

Maybe the lack of concern is because the role of “reputation risk management” isn’t really something you want your typical risk management guy worrying about–let him worry about the liability insurance and employee identity-cards.

Instead, let the chief PR guy or head of marketing take responsibility for managing and monitoring the company’s reputation management because right now, only 34% of risk managers give a hoot about monitoring social media and a mere 10% actively participate. Can you imagine if your VP of communications informed you that he wasn’t too worried about social media?

The report isn’t all bad news. While risk managers may not quite “get it” they are at least making an effort to better understand reputation management with 81% saying they’ve increased their focus on reputation management over the past 3 years.

Which leads me to a question. Who do you think should be responsible for a company’s reputation management? A risk manager, marketing, PR, or all of the above?

New research from Dr. Leslie Gaines-Ross and the Weber Shandwick team suggests company executives are well aware of the importance of a spotless reputation–and just how easily they can personally screw it up!

Of the 703 senior executives polled a whopping 100% of CEOs admit to frequently thinking about their company’s reputation–although only 38% of executives seem to care about their personal reputation. Clearly they’ve not heard that 87% of us tie a CEO’s reputation to that of the company (source: Hill & Knowlton).

It also appears that the higher-up the totem pole an executive is, the less threats he or she sees against their company’s reputation. At the CEO level only 56% see a "High/Moderate" threat to the company reputation, while those below the chief executive see a 67% threat. Of course, both camps are being a little too hopeful, what with previous studies showing 83% of companies will face a reputation crisis in the next five years that devalues them by 20-30% (source: Oxford-Metrica).

Lastly, a staggering 87% of global executives admit they’ve sent out (or received) at least one email, text, or Tweet, that could have led to a reputation-suicide.

If you have to serve on a jury in a criminal trial, you’d more than likely think very carefully about discussing that trial outside the jury room and what’s going on in court.

You wouldn’t blog about it, tweet it or write on your wall about it. Would you?

No such worries for a woman juror in Burnley, UK, who ran a poll on Facebook asking her friends to vote on whether they thought the accused were guilty or not.

[…] The woman posted details of the child abduction and sex assault case on the website. Then she told friends: “I don’t know which way to go, so I’m holding a poll.”

Jurors are forbidden from discussing details of cases even with their closest family members. The woman was dismissed after a tip-off to Burnley Crown Court, Lancs. The trial continued with 11 jurors. It was thought she did not use privacy settings, meaning the Facebook posts could be read by anyone.

Last night a legal source said the juror could have been charged with contempt of court — and the trial scrapped. The expert added: “It defies belief. She obviously has no grasp of how the judicial process works in this country. She had been asking her mates what they thought — and some people came back with guilty verdicts.”

Amazing but true according to The Sun and lots of mainstream media reports, via BrandRepublic.

Ask.com, a web site that offers search for web sites, images, news, blogs, video, maps and directions, local search and shopping, launched their new “Election Poll Smart Answers” that gives you local polling information in just one click: and it’s a lot faster and easier than any other major search engine.

Ask.com Smart Answers are special search results placed at the top of the Ask.com search results page that have quick facts and links to authoritative content from highly respected sources.

To use the new one-click poll information, go to Ask.com and type in a question like “when do polls open?”

Then, all you need to do is click your state from the drop-down menu:

After clicking “Go”, Ask.com instantly shows the local poll hours and provides quick links to district poll locations and other voting information right on the first search results page.

According to Ask.com, this new Smart Answers feature is part of Ask.com’s mission to provide us with the best answer, the first time, every time. However, it appears that there are a “lot more clicks” required in order to actually find your polling place and where you have to vote. After going through the process on the Ask.com web site, I was then taken to the official State of Texas web site where I had to then perform an additional search at the State of Texas web site:

I hate to be cynical about all of the Ask.com new “one click” Smart Answers feature, but all that the Ask.com feature does is point you to your own state’s web site after you choose your state: that’s hardly “one click”. In fact, there are other helpful things that they could do that would make it easier, like actually recognizing your location and forwarding you directly to your state’s polling information.

What do you get when you use the Ask.com Smart Answers feature when you look to find your polling place and time?

Are you looking for marketing services such as social media optimization, search engine marketing, pay per click program management or consulting, or search engine optimization services? Feel free to contact me.

Through the use of the Spreadsheets feature in Google Docs, Reuters published poll charts for key states for the Republican and Democratic primary races.

Super Tuesday occupies the candidates in 24 states today. Early primaries have knocked several candidates out of both races, with the remaining ones fighting it out on the biggest primary day in US history.

While we’re tempted to rant about being left out of the primary fun in Kentucky (seriously, Iowa and New Hampshire always get to go first, what nitwit made that decision?), other little areas of interest bear watching.

Like this Google Docs blog post about Reuters and their poll charts. In polling ahead of Super Tuesday, Reuters tapped Google Docs to generate those charts.
