Windows Phone 7 devices went on sale in the United States today with models available in AT&T and T-Mobile, stores.

Microsoft is sharing results from a Harris Interactive survey to help push its new operating system. The thinking is that Windows phones are "designed to get users in, out and back to life."

Rumor has it that the Nexus Two will be announced at a press conference on November 8th in New York. The announcement would come from Google and Samsung together, and the device would be he first to ship with the next version of Android – version 2.3 aka: Gingerbread. It would also be available on more than one carrier. 

Millennial Media, which claims to have the largest data set of any third-party U.S. mobile ad network,  reports that Android revenue exceeded iPhone-only revenue for its network. Android requests grew by 26% from the previous month,and 1283% since January. 

Microsoft showed off its new Windows Phone 7 devices this week. There are a lot of questions about how Microsoft will perform in the smartphone space, though they’re clearly up to the challenge. Microsoft’s success in this space also has big implications for the company’s performance in the search market, which means search marketers should keep an eye on this.

Microsoft unveiled 9 new Windows Phone 7 smartphones that will be available for the holidays in various parts of the world. Microsoft has partnerships with AT&T, T-Mobile, Telus, O2, Orange, SFR, Movistar, Deutsche Telekom, Vodafone, SingTel, and Telstra that will produce smartphone availability in the very near future. 

New data from comScore indicates that smartphone users now make up the majority of mobile browser and app users, at least in the United States. 

The firm finds that the number of Smartphone users accessing mobile content through browsers and apps now surpasses that of non-smartphone users, claiming that in the 3 month average ending in August, Smartphone subscribers made up 60% of those who used a downloaded app and 55% of those who used a browser. 

Google has launched a phone gallery to display Android devices that "deliver the best Google experience today". The gallery can be found at google.com/phone. You may recognize the URL as the former destination of Google’s failed phone store. 

Millennial Media has released its Mobile Marketing Mix report for the month of August. Among its findings are continued Android growth, as well as significant iPad growth. The firm points to the following as the highlights:

Verizon and Research in Motion (RIM) announced a new 3G version of the BlackBerry Curve today. It will become available on September 16 in business sales channels, and through Verizon in the coming weeks. 

Nokia has announced a new family of smartphones powered by the new Symbian platform. The devices are integrated with enhanced Ovi services and apps. They are the Nokia E7, the Nokia C7 and the Nokia C6. 

The latest version of Symbian comes with over 250 new features such as HDMI support, multiple personalized home screens, multipoint touch, multitasking and "turbo charged" graphics.

The G2 is of course the successor to the G1, which was the first Android-powered phone. It is designed by HTC. It has a 3.7-inch screen and opens to a QWERTY keyboard, and comes with Android 2.2 and a snapdragon MSM7230 mobile processor.

LG plans to launch 10 new smartphones and sell five million devices by the end of the year. In addition they will launch a tablet by the fourth quarter under the Optimus line. This is all according to the Wall Street Journal.

North Korea has reportedly joined Facebook and according to Valleywag has 65 friends. Meanwhile, it’s being blocked by South Korea.

Mobile ad network Millennial Media released its latest Mobile Mix report this morning. Android is now officially the number 2 OS on Millennial’s network. The Android OS grew another 47% month-over-month. Since January, Android has grown 690%. Android surpassed RIM as the number 2 OS on the network.

Apple ad requests increased 24% month-over-month, but are actually down 15% since January. iPad ad requests grew 327% month-over-month, however.

Google has launched a new Android app for version 2.2 (FroYo), called Voice Actions. The app lets you speak various commands to engage various functionalities of the phone.

With Voice Action, you can initiate the sending of text messages, listening to songs, calls to businesses or contacts, emails, web surfing, and more.

While Apple may have dominated the headlines with iPads and iPhones, 2010 has been a pretty good year for Android. Now Consumer Reports is recommending a variety of Android devices.

Android Headlines points to September’s issue of Consumer Reports, which ranks smartphones. Eight different ones made the "Recommend List" including:

- HTC Droid Incredible
- HTC Droid Eris

Research in Motion (RIM) announced its latest smartphone today, the BlackBerry Curve 3G. The plan for the device appears to be to win over non-smartphone users.

Google announced today that it has unlocked the Nexus One as its new Developer Phone. This comes at a price of $529.

The NPD Group has released a new smartphone report, finding that Motorola and HTC have driven Android to the lead in the U.S. Android is installed on one in three smartphones sold, according to the group.

Meanwhile, for the first time since 2007, RIM has slid to the number 2 position, as Android took the lead.

While Android accounted for 33% of all smartphones purchased in Q2, RIM accounted for 28%. Apple came in third at 22% with the launch of the iPhone 4.

Vonage has launched a new mobile app for calling Facebook friends. Users can make free mobile calls to their Facebook friends who also run the app (anywhere in the world). This can be done right from their friends list with one touch.

Today, Research in Motion (RIM) and AT&T launched the BlackBerry Torch, the first smartphone to feature the new BlackBerry 6, which was also unleashed today.
