Good news for Amazon Prime Instant Video customers today, as Amazon has just announced an expanded licensing agreement with NBCUniversal that will bring a handful of NBC, USA, and SyFy shows to the streaming video service.

Starting today, subscribers will get access to prior seasons of NBC’s Grimm, Hannibal, and Smash, USA’s Suits and Covert Affairs, and SyFy’s Defiance, Alphas, Eureka, and Warehouse 13.

“We listen carefully to our customers to find out which TV shows and movies they find the most entertaining,” said Brad Beale, Director of Digital Video Content Acquisition for Amazon. “Our expanded agreement with NBCUniversal gives Prime members access to even more exclusive content that they can stream instantly, at no additional cost. Compelling shows like Covert Affairs, Defiance, Grimm, Hannibal and Suits are big wins for our customers and we look forward to adding more titles soon.”

The deal also bring a couple of kids shows to Kindle FreeTime Unlimited – Curious George and The Land Before Time.

Earlier this year, Amazon Prime added Food Network and Travel Channel shows, as well as FX’s hit series Justified and PBS’ Downton Abbey (which they nabbed exclusive rights to, snatching it away from Netflix and Hulu). Last month, Amazon released a series of pilots produced by Amazon Studios. Viewer feedback will determine which of the 14 shows are given a full run.

Michael J. Fox is returning to network television, and his new show, in which he plays a television personality with Parkinson’s disease returning to television, looks pretty entertaining.

The trailer for the show, which is coming to NBC on Thursdays this fall, has been released:

Here’s the official description for the show:

Look who’s making the news again. One of New York’s most beloved news anchors, Mike Henry (Michael J. Fox), put his career on hold to spend more time with his family and focus on his health after he was diagnosed with Parkinson’s. But now five years later, with the kids busy growing up and Mike growing restless, it just might be time for him to get back to work.

Having never wanted Mike to leave in the first place, his old boss Harris Green jumped at the chance to get him back on TV. The trick, as it’s always been, was to make Mike think it was his idea. After several – okay, many – failed attempts, Mike’s family, anxious to see him out of the house, finally succeeded in getting him to “run into” Green. Now their plan is in motion. He’ll be back to juggling home, family and career, just like the old days – only better.

Sold yet? Come on, who doesn’t love Michael J. Fox?

Plus, it has Betsy Brandt from Breaking Bad.

NBC Entertainment Chairman Bob Greenblatt announced this weekend that Seth Meyers will become the host of Late Night next year, replacing current host Jimmy Fallon. Meyers is currently the head writer for Saturday Night Live. Lorne Michaels, the producer of Saturday Night Live, will also be signing on as the executive producer of Late Night with Seth Meyers.

“We think Seth is one of the brightest, most insightful comedy writers and performers of his generation,” said Greenblatt. “His years at SNL’s ‘Weekend Update’ desk, not to mention being head writer of the show for many seasons, helped him hone a topical brand of comedy that is perfect for the ‘Late Night’ franchise. On behalf of Steve Burke, Ted Harbert and Paul Telegdy, we couldn’t be happier that Seth and Jimmy Fallon will be continuing their careers at NBC after growing up in this network’s late night legacy.”

Fallon took over Late Night hosting duties from Conan O’Brien in 2009. Next year he will be moving to take Jay Leno’s place on The Tonight Show following the 2014 Winter Olympics.

“I only have to work for Lorne for five more years before I pay him back for the time I totaled his car,” said Meyers, “12:30 on NBC has long been incredible real estate. I hope I can do it justice.”

The popular U.S. version of TV comedy The Office is finally ending its eight-year run.

The Office, which is the American spin-off of the British Ricky Gervais/Stephen Merchant comedy of the same name, caught on with American viewers largely due to Carell’s Michael Scott character. Carell left the show in 2011, and ratings have been falling ever since.

So, when it comes to the big finale, the question on everyone’s mind is whether Carell will be making a guest appearance as Scott. Unfortunately for long-time fans, it doesn’t appear that Carell will even be making a cameo in the final episode.

A Reuters report on a conference call with The Office Executive Producer Greg Daniels states definitively that Carell will not be a part of the finale. Daniels stated that Carell felt his final episode on the show was a good end for his character.

The final episode of The Office will air on May 16 and will be an hour long. Daniels revealed that the finale will be patterned after the the finale of the British series, in which the characters meet again after becoming famous.

Ever since Ann Curry was forced out of her position at the Today Show last year, the show has been losing viewers and Matt Lauer’s reputation has been taking a nose dive. Whether or not Lauer was responsible for Curry’s firing isn’t clear, but her replacement with the younger Savannah Guthrie rubbed fans the wrong way.

This week, yet another wrinkle in the tale of the Today Show anchor drama has been revealed.

New York Magazine this week published an expose on Lauer and the Today Show that details the anchor’s flirtation with jumping ship from NBC to ABC. According to the report, Lauer was speaking with ABC to develop a daytime TV show hosted by Katie Couric and himself, just like the old days. This was around the time rumors of Lauer being replaced by Ryan Seacrest were making the rounds. Lauer was to be a host on the daytime show and an on-air news personality for ABC, which the network hoped would help Good Morning America beat the Today Show.

The talks evidently broke down because Lauer ended them. He had been offered a substantial contract to stay on at the Today Show, where Curry would soon be out.

NBC and Warner Bros. today announced that The Ellen DeGeneres Show has been renewed through the 2016-2017 season.

According to Warner Bros., the daytime talk show, hosted by Ellen DeGeneres, tied Dr. Phil for the highest-rated syndicated talk show among women ages 25 to 54 during the 2012-2013 season. The show airs on NBC-owned stations and a variety of TV stations across the U.S.

“Ellen is quite simply the best,” said Ken Werner, president of NBC Owned Television Stations. “Day in and day out she and her team produce a unique and compelling hour of entertainment which is appointment television for legions of women. We are absolutely thrilled that NBC, Ellen, Warner Bros. and all of our station partners will be continuing our successful relationship for years to come.”

The Ellen Degeneres Show began airing in the fall of 2003. During that time the show has garnered 38 Daytime Emmy Awards and DeGeneres herself has won 13 People’s Choice Awards.

“Ellen is having its best season ever during the tenth anniversary of the show,” said Hilary Estey McLoughlin, president of Telepictures Productions, which produces syndicated television for Warner Bros. “It is a testament to Ellen’s brilliance as a talent and our extraordinary production team. We are so proud of the show and grateful for all the support and partnership of NBC and all of our stations. We look forward to collaborating with them to build Ellen to even greater success in the years ahead.”

TV Guide this week reported that Gillian Anderson, best known for her role as Dana Scully in X-Files, has been cast in a TV pilot for NBC.

Cast alongside Anderson is Rachael Taylor, known for her work on Grey’s Anatomy, Charlie’s Angels, and 666 Park Avenue. According to TV Guide, Anderson and Taylor will play sisters in the new show, with Taylor starring as an FBI agent and Anderson starring as the CEO of a major company.

The show, which doesn’t have a title yet, will involve Washington D.C. blackmail, conspiracy, and law enforcement agencies such as the FBI and Secret Service. It’s a conceit that sounds vaguely similar to Showtime’s hit show Homeland. The show is being headed by Rand Ravich, known as the writer/director of The Astronaut’s Wife and the executive producer of the NBC series Life.

NBC had better hope that their Ravich project or other pilots, such as Hatfields & McCoys, turn out well, because the network’s peacock feathers are beginning to fade. Just last week NBC was projected to come in fifth in the ratings sweeps that took place between January 31 and February 19. Though shows such as The Biggest Loser and The Office received modest ratings, failures such as Do No Harm and 1600 Penn pulled the network below the ratings for Spanish-language network Univision.

Deadline this week is reporting that NBC is projected to fall to fifth place among adults ages 18 to 49 after a dismal sweeps showing.

While CBS raked in ratings for established shows such as The Big Bang Theory and Two and a Half Men, as well as the its coverage of this year’s Super Bowl. Fox continued to ride the success of American Idol, but NBC averaged only a 1.2 rating in the key adult demographic from January 31 to February 19. As Deadline points out, that’s lower than the ratings Spanish-lauguage station Univision has seen over the same period.

New NBC shows such as Do No Harm and 1600 Penn have been ratings failures. The only shows NBC seems to have that garner even moderate ratings are The Biggest Loser and The Office.

Networks have the money and exposure to provide free TV entertainment to millions of Americans, but as the country becomes more connected those same networks are becoming less relevant. The NBC Facebook page, for example, has only around 400,000 “Likes,” while Netflix has over 3.7 million. Now that Netflix has demonstrated through House of Cards that it can provide popular premium TV programming without getting it from other content producers, networks should be scrambling to make themselves more relevant – and available – online.

Roseanne Barr has been slowly making her way back into the mainstream after years of staying low on the celebrity radar. After “Roseanne” went off the air in 1997, she had a few, mostly short-lived projects which unfortunately didn’t showcase her talents enough to keep her around.

But the comedienne is working on a new sitcom idea for NBC with her “Roseanne’s Nuts” partner, Steven Greener. Coincidentally, she’s also about to make a three-episode appearance on the network’s long-running comedy “The Office” as a talent agent who sets out to help Andy break into show biz.

Roseanne made headlines last year after announcing she was on the ballot for presidency and becoming a regular user on Twitter, where she posted about the election and her reasons for running. She also aligned herself with Anonymous after the highly publicized and controversial Steubenville, Ohio rape case.

Though she’s been seen as somewhat quirky over recent years, many of her old fans would love to see her back in a successful vehicle so many years after “Roseanne”. Until the NBC deal is finalized, however, we’ll just have to settle for watching her work her magic on “The Office”.

NBC Sports and Dial Global announced today that former Boston Red Sox manager Bobby Valentine will join the NBC Sports Radio lineup as a Major League Baseball commentator, effective this month.

Commentary is not completely new territory for Valentine. In addition to managing baseball teams, he has also provided analysis for ESPN’s Sunday Night Baseball.

Valentine will call in weekly to NBC Sports Radio affiliates and speak with hosts about baseball topics. He’ll also become a part-time co-host of a daily (Monday – Friday) talk show that will debut in April. This show has yet to be named.

“I can’t wait to get started on NBC Sports Radio,” said Valentine. “I’m looking forward to talking to our affiliates and network shows, and to being a major contributor to the network. I always state my honest opinion and I can’t wait to share it with NBC Sports Radio listeners.”

“We all known that Bobby V. will bring a passionate and opinionated voice to NBC Sports Radio and we can’t wait to light that fire,” said Chris Corcoran, Executive Vice President, General Manager, Dial Global. “Along with Stan Van Gundy, NBC Sports Radio offers two of the most opinionated former major league coaches, each of whom will bring our affiliates and advertisers excellent and compelling content every time they speak”.

Rob Simmelkjaer, SVP, NBC Sports Ventures and International, added, “Bobby Valentine has always possessed one of the greatest minds and sharpest tongues in all of baseball. This will be must-hear radio.”

Valentine was dismissed from his position as manager of the Sox after just a single season with the team.
