Regardless if you’re a child or an elder, the Super Bowl is one event watched no matter the age. It’s a clash of titans, the best of the best. All the year’s hard work comes to a head only to eventually explode in glorious victory.

With that being covered, it’s no wonder the big game was named as the most watched television program is history. Now, only adding compliment to courtesy, it has been named the most streamed online program in history with well over 2.1 million viewers. The NFL said that NBC’s streaming of the game was a “tremendous success in its first year”, according to a report in The New York Times

This is the first year NBC has streamed the Super Bowl live over the web, although they do regularly stream other games during the regular season.

SVP, Business Development and Managing Director of Digital Media, NBC Sports Group, Kevin Monaghan said this about the stream:

“The Super Bowl XLVI live stream exceeded our expectations in every way. Increasingly, sports fans are looking to digital coverage as a complementary ‘second screen’ experience, and we delivered on that promise with unprecedented robust coverage. The record traffic that grew throughout the event, as well as the record high engagement numbers, underscores the complementary aspect of digital as an enhancement to our exceptional television coverage.”

Hans Schroeder, NFL Senior Vice President of Media Strategy and Development commented on NBC’s streaming of the game:

“It was exciting to work with NBC Sports to offer fans the Super Bowl in more ways than ever before. The Super Bowl live stream was a tremendous success in its first year. We will continue to look for more ways to reach our fans.”

NBC says 2,105,441 active and unique users streamed Sunday’s game, while 4,589,593 live video streams were open. Combined, users spent 78,624,422 minutes streaming the game with an average of greater than 39 minutes spent actively engaged in viewing the game online.

NBC’s attempt to protect us from this horrible gesture failed, as their censoring system kicked in too late. Super Bowl viewers were treated to a blurred out screen a couple seconds following the middle finger incident. M.I.A. also appeared to say “sh*t,” but it was barely audible and overshadowed by the gesture.

NBC was quick to release a statement on the incident, calling it a “spontaneous gesture” similar to Janet Jackson’s famous wardrobe malfunction a few years back. “We apologize for the inappropriate gesture that aired during half-time. It was a spontaneous gesture that our delay system caught late,” they said.

The NFL’s statement was a bit sharper and put the blame on NBC’s broadcasting failures.

There was a failure in NBC’s delay system. The obscene gesture in the performance was completely inappropriate, very disappointing, and we apologize to our fans.

Continuing the mini war-of-words, NBC amended their statement to say that the NFL “hired the talent and produced the halftime show.”

It’s comforting to see that both the NBC and the NFL seem to be containing the outrage.

M.I.A.’s “flip-slip” is nowhere near as shocking as Janet Jackson’s nip-slip, but it definitely appears to be overshadowing Madonna’s performance. And M.I.A. has definitely succeeded in spurring on the country’s fake outrage machine.

If you’re shocked by a split-second middle finger then you obviously haven’t been paying attention to Bill Belichick’s wardrobe. Talk about offensive. And aren’t we missing a bigger point here? That trying to shock the world during the Super Bowl Halftime show after the legendary wardrobe malfunction is like trying to shock a SNL audience after Sinead O’Connor ripped up the picture of the Pope. You’re going to have to doing something more than flip the bird to really shake things up.

That’s right, folks. The Super Bowl will be broadcast live online for the first time ever this year. NBC Sports has been kind enough to give us a real treat this year by offering two options on top of the traditional TV viewing model that we all know and love.

First and foremost, the game is being broadcast on NBCSports.com. If you go there now, you’ll be able to catch the pre-game show that started at 10 a.m. and will continue until 4 p.m. The game is also coming to you courtesy of the NFL mobile app that will allow you to watch it from any Verizon smartphone.

The kick-off is at 6:30 p.m. EST so be sure to be in front of your TV before then. If not, the Internet has you covered. The livestream of the game online has a few distinct features that avid football fans are going to want to check out. While the televised version will feature multiple camera angles, the online version will feature four unique camera angles that fans can pick and choose for the best experience. It brings DVR-lite functionality to the game as well allowing fans to rewind and pause the game to watch the sure to be stupendous plays again. Finally, the livestream will allow fans to share their favorite moments via Facebook and Twitter.

For the betting types out there, we got you covered as well. The Wynn sports book in Las Vegas became the first book to post the Super Bowl line of Patriots -2 on Saturday afternoon. Most sports books have New England favored by -2.5 to -3 points. Keep yourself updated as those odds are likely to keep changing until the game starts.

So many taken before they came into true fruition; it’s always a shame to see a TV show ended before true completion. Sometimes there are valid reasons for this – high budgets, low viewership, and being replaced by something better. It doesn’t make the loss hurt any less. I was beside myself for days after Veronica Mars was axed.

For those who have been following Community since the beginning, we’ve seen Pierce going crazy dressed as The Beastmaster, amazing paintball episodes, and the continued adventures of Kick-Puncher. It could all end up being taken away from us.

The show is on hiatus right now, with many rumors and mumblings pointing towards the cancellation of the show.

On NBC’s “Meet the Press” Sunday, Fred Thompson and Senator John McCain, who endorses Mitt Romney, sat side-by-side. Each extolled the virtues of their respective candidates, prognosticated on the outcome and consequences of the upcoming Florida GOP primary, and talked about different topics of the day.

At one point, Fred Thompson referenced a New York Times article from that morning that outlined Mitt Romney’s recent attacks on his man Newt. In that context he also stated that Romney was getting biased support from Matt Drudge’s “Drudge Report” website in the form of positive coverage for Romney and negative for Gingrich, saying Romney has Drudge in his “back pocket”.

Recently, much hay has been made some supposed statements Newt Gingrich made in private, disparaging Ronald Reagan. And, that headline was played up big on Drudge.

Most GOP candidates go out of their way to speak glowingly of Reagan, who was an extremely popular president for them. To be seen as critical of Reagan in a GOP race would invite ostracism from the party faithful and old guard. And, Gingrich has been selling himself in Florida as a “Reagan conservative”.

Gingrich stumped in and won the recent South Carolina primary with the message that Romney was the GOP pick, regardless of what the people want. He presented himself as an anti-establishment Washington outsider who would challenge the GOP’s presumption.

The Drudge Report ran the story of Thompson’s accusations, and responded with links to three stories that had reported Newt in the lead in weeks prior.

But, they also soon top-lined these gems.

According to one source the episode has been filmed and is set to air this coming monday, January 30th. It’s been reported that several contestants did, in fact, gulp down the gross substances.

Fear Factor has always had a wild reputation for sick and gross stunts; including eating cow brains, drinking animal blood, devouring insects and more, but with the addition of this insane stunt, the show really seems to be pushing the bar on the disgusting. Because of this, companies tend to bring out the big guns for Super Bowl ads, which means that they are often better than your everyday run-of-the-mill ads.

So if you enjoy Super Bowl commercials, YouTube and NBC have a place you can go to catch all of them. YouTube is returning with Ad Blitz, the “premier online gallery” of Super Bowl commercials.

YouTube’s Ad Blitz channel will post the Super Bowl ads after they’ve aired during the game on NBC. After the game is over, a voting period will begin allowing users to choose the best of the bunch.

The YouTube Ad Blitz channel is already live, but it doesn’t yet include any 2012 commercials. You can find tailgating videos, party food recipes and dozens of the best ads from 2011, however.

Troy Ewanchyna, Vice President, Business Development & Digital Strategies, NBC Sports Group, noted, “YouTube’s Ad Blitz is the perfect platform for us to extend our online promotion for our coverage of Super Bowl XLVI. The post-game Ad Blitz and the next-day Google+ Hangout allow us to extend our coverage and continue to serve viewers even when the game has concluded.”

BONUS: During the post-game, Google+ will host a special hangout with an “NBC Celebrity.” More to come on exactly who that will be.

Hulu also announced their own Super Bowl ad-viewing service today with the launch of AdZone. There, you can take a trip down memory lane with the best commercials from as early as 1973.

Panasonic’s chairman and CEO Joseph Taylor said that “[f]ull HD 3D is ideal for capturing the true spectacle of Olympic competition and the pageantry of Olympic ceremonies,” and said that the partnership “will deliver to home viewers an unprecedented 3D Olympic experience that will make them feel as though they are right there with the world’s finest athletes as they compete.”

Though it has been fairly popular at the movie theater, 3D technology in homes has been a bit slower to catch on. It is not entirely clear how many people will be able to watch the 3D broadcasts, especially with the events on a delay. It will be interesting to see how this remarkable experiment in 3D broadcasting turns out.
