It seems AOL wasn’t too serious about dropping the “AOL” part from their future products. After some beta testing, AOL is today launching MyAOL (a customizable mobile desktop) and a regular mobile portal for those not into the whole tweaking thing.

The portal includes the type of news, entertainment, and sports content that is available on the desktop version of the portal…it features AOL’s mobile search technology that returns tailored results for mobile users. For example, if a mobile user searches for a music artist, the first results may be ringtones. In addition, AOL’s search crawls an index of sites designed for mobile use, so it will return those sites near the top of the list.

Also launching today, a mobile shopping service–enter a barcode and comparison shop from your phone–and MyMobile–a downloadable app for Windows Mobile users.

Of course, none of this stuff is revolutionary.

AOL has launched a new site in beta called myAOL that allows users to organize and personalize their online content.

myAOL offers users three features they can customize including a personalized homepage, a content search service and feed reading tools.

"Our goal is to make personalization as effortless as possible while making it as relevant as possible to the user," said David Liu, Senior Vice President, AOL.

"myAOL allows users of all types to find, discover, archive, and share content and applications from destinations across the Web – all from one convenient product suite."

myAOL features include a personalized homepage called myPage, which offers access to content and applications from AOL and third party email providers and Web sites.

A second feature called Mgnet, pronounced "magnet", allows users to search for news and other information by clicking on images. User will be able to rate and save content, and later this year AOL plans to allow users to view and add recommendations from their AIM buddies.

The final feature is called Favorites, which is a feed reader that combines user feeds and bookmarks in one place. There is also a "Mix & Share" feature where users can share feeds using email or instant messaging.
