According to CNET’s sources, Facebook is looking to take music video service VEVO away from YouTube. This would mean that you would have to go to Facebook to check out the latest videos from Sony, Universal and EMI artists.

Apparently the talks are super preliminary due to the fact that VEVO still has a year left in their YouTube contract. But the sources confirm that there have been at least two meetings and that they took place within the last few weeks.

Right now, YouTube streams VEVO content and the two properties split all of the ad revenue. This is reportedly the kind of deal that Facebook would strike with VEVO.

Facebook has just dipped its toes into the water when it comes to a being a music destination. Along with recent moves like Spotify integration, Facebook also just announced a new music sharing service that allows users to listen to songs as their friends do – at the same time. Facebook users can also set up music parties with their friends where one is the DJ, and can chat live about the tracks as they play. The app, which is compatible with Spotify and Rdio, is in the process of rolling out to all users.

But having VEVO content on the site could add a whole new element to their music offerings. VEVO could benefit from the move by accessing a medium where folks spend a lot more time on average and where social interactions like commenting, liking, and sharing feel more natural to some users.

VEVO is pretty huge. In comScore’s December Online Video Rankings, VEVO came in 2nd in terms of total unique viewers with 53.6 million. They are easily the top YouTube partner, besting the 2nd place Warner Music by over 20 million unique viewers during the month. Each viewer of VEVO content on YouTube spent about 67 minutes watching videos throughout December.

Whatever ends up happening, I don’t expect Facebook to just swoop down and snatch VEVO up without a fight.

Their new single “Lonely Boy” is now officially out for digital purchase, and will be out on November 25th on vinyl. The song is off their upcoming album El Camino, set to release on December 6th.

I’m a pretty big fan of these guys, and I thought that their album Brothers was one of the best albums of 2010. This new song is good, and it does the one thing that most new Black Keys songs do, which is sound distinctly like the Black Keys. New songs always require multiple listens for me to find out how I truly feel about them.

But I don’t need multiple viewings of this video to say that they hit another home run. Simple, catchy, funny – it’s got viral written all over it. Check it out below:

One commenter writes, “My 2yr old niece loves this video, she’s had me replaying this song for almost an hr now so she can sing/dance along to it.” The Black Keys have the approval of toddlers, so you know it’s a winner.

As I mentioned before, this isn’t The Black Keys’ first go-round with awesome viral music videos. This video for “Howlin For You” has YouTube denizens begging for a film to be made in its honor –

ORIGINAL ARTICLE: If you’re browsing the Twittersphere right now, you might notice that the trending topics list is saturated with pop music references. Many TTs are due to last night’s MTV Video Music Awards, but some are there thanks to the work of one iLCreation.

Music videos from the likes of Justin Bieber, Lady Gaga, Rihanna and more are officially down on YouTube right now.

First, and most importantly to the tweens on Twitter, is the outage of the Justin Bieber VEVO channel. All of his videos have been removed based on a copyright claim from iLCreative (as you can see from the lead image).

Other casualties of iLCreative’s rampage? Rhianna. Her video for “What’s My Name?” currently bears the same takedown notice. Users on Twitter are also reporting missing videos from Bruno Mars, Beyonce, and Miley Cyrus.

Twitter’s little monsters are also enraged that Lady Gaga’s “Bad Romance” video has disappeared. There’s no takedown notice, it is simply gone. When you search for it on YouTube, the only results you get are a live version and a behind-the-scenes”making of the video” clip. Miley Cyrus’ “Party In The USA” has also suffered the same fate.

Who is this iLCreation? Besides being the most hated person on Twitter right now, the only trace on YouTube that I can find is a channel seemingly devoted to cricket videos.

There’s also a brand new Facebook page called iLCreation that may or may not actually come from those behind the video takedowns. Under the info, under “mission,” it reads DELETE CHANNEL JUSTINBIEBERVEVO OFFICIAL OF YOUTUBE! WE FINALLY UP!

The Twitter outrage is amusing, to say the least.

Whoever is behind this – the pop music terrorist, wreaking havoc on the millions and millions of Bieber fanatics – deserves our deepest gratitude derision!

Last week, we explored the viral takeoff of her stripped-down “Edge of Glory” performance on the Howard Stern show. We talked about Gaga’s enormous internet presence and how she is able boost her popularity through smart, strategic use of social media.

This latest release is another example of that.

Gaga has been promoting the release of the Yoü and I (yes, strange umlaut and all) on Twitter for over a week. On August 2nd, she announced that the video link would be her 1000th tweet –

She continued to discuss the new single, revealing the cover a couple of days later –

And an hour ago she unveiled the new video, as promised, via Twitter –

In the video, Gaga presents her male alter ego (Father Monster?). It’s a little NSFW due to sexual content (involving a mermaid Gaga). Check it out below –

In actuality, the video hit the internet a little before Gaga’s 1000th tweet, as it appeared on Perez Hilton earlier today.

The app called MySpace Music Romeo allows users to choose from 15 music genres such as pop or hip-hop and 13 moods including "chill" and "studying."

Music Romeo features a "Love" icon that users can click on when a favorite song is played and it will be added to their "Love" list. The more songs a user loves, the more Romeo plays music based on favorites.

Music Romeo crawls a number of social sites along with web pages and blogs to keep tabs on what’s trending online in real-time. Users cans share what videos they are watching with others on MySpace, Facebook and Twitter.

Other features of MySpace Music Romeo include:

*Purchase music from iTunes- Integration with the iTunes store allows users to download and purchase music or video.

*The web and iPad tablet are optimized for video viewing and allow for rich media content.

*While listening to a playlist, users have the option to skip up to 12 songs per day or six in one hour. A 15 second ad will play every 14 minutes.
 

Interested independent bands or artist can apply for Musicians Wanted through YouTube’s Partner Program. Those who are accepted will have their own page where they can add details about where they will be playing, provide links to buying music and showcase their music videos.

Independent artists will also share YouTube’s advertising revenue generated by their music video plays as well as when videos are embedded on other websites, such as music blogs.

The YouTube Blog offers more details. "So whether you make hip-hop, folk, noise-rock, jazz or a genre of your own invention, we are looking for all types of original music video content."

"One thing to keep in mind is that right now this program only supports video content by U.S.-based artists, though there are plans to roll out the program more widely in the future."
 

Warner will offer music videos via Dailymotion’s website in the U.S., Europe and North Africa.

"We are delighted that our large and growing repertoire of quality music videos includes content from Warner Music Group, Universal Music Group, EMI and leading independent The Orchard," said Joy Marcus, General Manager of Dailymotion U.S.

"This breadth and depth of repertoire is a big win for our users who, quite simply, love music. Advertisers will also be pleased with new opportunities to reach a large audience of highly-engaged music fans."

Visitors to Dailymotion will have ad-supported access to music videos, concerts and interviews from Warner Music’s local and international acts. Under the terms of agreement, registered users will be able to create and share video playlists. The first videos are slated to be available within a month.

Outside the U.S., Warner Music and Dailymotion will work together on the sale of targeted advertising and sponsorships embedded in the videos. Warner Music will manage sales inside the U.S.

"Dailymotion understands that offering official artist content is one of the most powerful ways to attract an interested, interactive audience," said Leanne Sharman, Vice President, Commercial Development, Warner Music Europe.

"This partnership further strengthens our premium video strategy, which provides our roster of artists a flexible, wide-reaching distribution footprint through which to monetize and promote their music."
 

Partners in Vevo include Universal Music Group, Sony Entertainment and investor Abu Dhabi Media Company. The site is powered by YouTube.

Vevo says its top ranking is an achievement because it did not launch until December 8 and it was not live for the full month of December, which comScore bases its results.

"The Vevo Network, which is still in its infancy, has debuted at the top of the comScore rankings for unique visitors across the Entertainment-Music category in the U.S.," said Rio Caraeff (President and CEO, Vevo).

"The interest and enthusiasm our users have shown has been both gratifying and inspiring. We are also proud to deliver such strong traffic results straight out of the gate to our content and marketing partners, which solidify their early belief in the Vevo vision. We listen very closely to all of our partners and fans, and have been incorporating their feedback to continue to improve upon the Vevo experience."

 Music videos from Beyonce, Justin Bieber, Drake, Lady Gaga, Jay Sean, Shakira, Britney Spears, Taylor Swift and Young Money are the most popular on Vevo this week.

The Top 5 U.S. Entertainment-Music networks on the web, according to comScore Media Metrix data, for December 2009 include: MySpace Music, AOL Music, Warner Music and MTV Networks Music.

EMI joins Universal Music Group and Sony Music Entertainment in what is being called the "Hulu for music videos." So far Vevo has not reached a licensing agreement with Warner Music Group.

EMI will not hold a stake in Vevo unlike Universal and Sony. Users will be able to watch music videos from artists on EMI’s labels including Astralwerks, Blue Note, Capitol and Virgin, as well as the independent artists and labels represented by EMI Label Services and EMI’ Caroline Distribution unit.

"Our agreement with EMI Music marks a milestone in our mission to provide fans everywhere with the world’s best premium music video programming, when, where and how they want it," stated Rio Caraeff, President & CEO of VEVO.

"We look forward to collaborating with EMI on introducing our users to new professionally-created entertainment products through a truly interactive platform.

Vevo will be powered by YouTube and the content will be made available on the site, on Vevo, and through a special branded embedded player. The video service will also act as a syndication platform for additional sites, expanding the reach of the Vevo brand online.

In October Vevo signed on AT&T as its first major advertiser. The announcement did not include details about ad revenue sharing, but AT&T said it would support Vevo’s services across multiple connected platforms.

Hulu itself is just starting to get its feet wet with music videos. This week, the site entered an agreement with record label EMI, and already has a channel set up for EMI artist Norah Jones. More EMI artists will follow in time. Vevo on the other hand, should have a much greater catalog of music videos to choose from when it launches.
