If you’re Laurene Powell Jobs – which you’re not – you would be able to respond to the Ms. Obama in person because you would be one of a handful of guests invited to sit in the First Lady’s Box during tonight’s State of the Union Address. Jobs, the widow of Apple co-founder and resident spiritual leader, has been a noted philanthropist in her own right as she’s been involved in several non-profit organizations.

The Wall Street Journal reports that Jobs inclusion among the First Lady’s list of personal guests – which also includes Debbie Bosanek, Warren Buffet’s secretary; Julian Castro, the mayor of San Antonio, Texas); and Bruce Cochrane, chief executive of Lincolnton Furniture – is a suggestion of the themes that can be expected to be addressed in the State of the Union speech tonight.

As for the rest of you? Have fun watching SOTU from the comfortable curvatures of your own sofa.

You got it – First Lady Michelle Obama has joined the Twitterscape. A couple of subsequent posts gave some details as to what people can expect to see from her account:

Shortly after the account went live, according to Mashable, the terms “First Lady” and “Welcome to Twitter” became trending topics as the Twitterscape received Ms. Obama. In fact, she even got a special welcome from a familiar face:

It’s kinda cute, really, like watching two high school sweethearts exchange knowing looks of affection from across the classroom. People other than her husband also greeted her arrival today. Lots of notable Twitterers chimed in as people expressed felicitations while others, because this is the Internet, just had to be sour mouths about the whole thing:

Of the 1.4 million spam emails analyzed by SPAMfighter in December, Michelle Obama was the subject nearly five times as much as Britney Spears was, nearly six times as often as Paris Hilton, and ten times as much as Angelina Jolie.

Maybe spammers are making use of free online measurement tools like Google Trends to map out current spikes in interest. A Google Trends analysis shows Obama beating the former queens of the Internet lately as well.

“This is only the tip of the iceberg,” said SPAMfighter cofounder and CMO Martin Thorburg. “As the big inauguration day nears, it’s likely we’ll see an even bigger increase in Obama related spam. E-mail users can beat spammers to the punch, however they must be vigilant.
 

“E-mail users should get their Michelle Obama and celebrity gossip fix from trusted blogs and Web sites rather than risk opening unsolicited e-mails. By clicking on spam, users identify their e-mails as a working address and it is then sold off to more spammers resulting in even more spam. It’s important that we work together to help eliminate spam.”
  
 

What API reported as Mrs. Obama’s words are fairly benign, but enough to get a segment of the blogosphere riled up. In an incredibly poorly spelled and punctuated post, API said she criticized them for supporting “American white racists” who had made an issue of Obama’s adoption by his Indonesian stepfather. Strangely based in Norway and publishing via WordPress, API also reported Mrs. Obama told them “not to dig that which will support evil people who are out to stop her husband from getting the presidency,” and that black people who opposed Obama did so “because of envy.”

Jake Tapper, ABC News’ Senior National Correspondent based in the network’s Washington bureau, has word from the Obama campaign that the interview API claims to have conducted is “100% bogus.”

He writes:

"This morning my inbox is filled with the ‘WHY ARENT YOU COVERING THIS?’ e-mails on the subject. The answer is: because it doesn’t appear to be in any way real."

If you think ABC News is too liberal and somehow less credible than API—established, so the blog header says, in 2006 and virtually invisible in Google search results other than the blog posts mentioning this very controversy—then maybe you’ll believe the National Review, conveying from campaign spokesman Tommy Vietor, “The answer is no, it’s not real, the report is made up.  She did not speak to the organization.”

API, which seems to be in pretty tight with, or likes at least to make mention of smear-master Jerome Corsi and misspells words like “Farakhan” and “innoguration,” is sticking to its story, and says if you call them, they’ll tell you the same. They provided their phone number in an update if you’d like to verify with them.

According to a subsequent post, API says it will release audio recording of the phone call “when we are satisfied it is not intended to be misused in any way or for any gains by an group.”

Or, my guess anyway, as soon as they can create one. The better question for ABC would be why they killed a 2006 whistleblower report by former ABC investigative reproter Rebecca Abrahams about how evoting machine company Diebold rigs elections, or why nobody’s talking about Stephen Spoonamore and Mike Connell just a few short weeks before the election. And if candidate wives are going to be a big controversy, Verizon and AT&T rushing out to Sedona to install special cellular towers just for Cindy McCain should be a bigger one.
