A quarter of a billion dollars is what Microsoft put into Facebook. That’s plenty enough money, says Marketing Pilgrim’s Andy Beal, to set up your very own social network.

What’s more, Google wouldn’t have to build it from scratch. They’ve already got YouTube, Gmail, iGoogle, Google Reader, Google Calander, Google Ham-San-Damnwich.

Just kidding about the san-damnwich…it’s nearly lunchtime.

But you get the point: Google’s already got all the components to build a social network aside from lackluster Orkut. And to hear some talk, if you use all of Google’s available personalized products, you may already be a member.

Then again, Google doesn’t always do things that make sense to the rest of the world. We’re still waiting on the Google phone, Google Nation-wide Broadband, and Google Operating System.
