The cool thing about this story is to step back and appreciate this iconic band utilizing the technology of social media to interact with its fans. This is a relatively new concept in their half a century of being musicians, and honestly the fact that they still care enough about the fans to do so is rather refreshing.

Participants asked the band about topics such as piracy, musical influence, and how they think they would’ve done if they had started their career at the mercy of the American Idol judges. Guitarist Keith Richards in turn, asks the fans a question via YouTube video: "What do you want to hear next?"

The Rolling Stones are starting up the series that coincides with the release of Martin Scorsese concert film opening today, featuring the band called "Shine a Light," a song title off their critically acclaimed double album "Exile on Main St." released in 1972.

YouTube says it plans to feature people from a number of different fields in the future including film, sports, and politics.
