The Live Search product will no longer be living in the same house with all of the other Windows Live products. A new leader will take it over as Microsoft forms a new “beat Google” corporate group.

The online Merriam-Webster dictionary includes alternate links for more information about a term; among those links, visitors can find one going to Microsoft’s Windows Live Search.

Like a puppy chasing someone, Microsoft has been in the search engine pack hounding Google. They could be on their way to eroding just a bit of Google’s market share, but much has to happen first.

A couple of new Live Search gadgets designed for the Vista Sidebar add out of the browser search and traffic results to Microsoft’s latest operating system.

The headline above may be a bit premature as the claimed email received from MSN search team by a SearchEngineWatch forums member has not been acknowledged as coming from Microsoft. A quote:

Cornell University has announced joint initiatives with Microsoft and Kirtas Technologies aimed at digitizing a majority of the school’s library content. The volumes will be made available online via Microsoft’s Live Book Search.

After days of typing in “joe”* into the search box atop MSN.com, I finally got Windows Live Search, instead of MSN Search.

The new search platform from Microsoft officially debuted at Live.com and will also deliver the search results on the MSN website.

The newest beta candidate of the Firefox 2.0 web browser has been online for only a day, but Yahoo has already made one of its technologies available to it.
