A little history: Port’s blog uses Google’s Blogger software.  Port used her blog to call model Liskula Cohen a skank.  Cohen then sued in order to find out who was behind the insult, and following a legal skirmish, a federal judge forced Google to hand over the relevant information.

That brings us to the $15 million lawsuit-in-the-making.  Port told George Rush, "Without any warning, I was put on a silver platter for the press to attack me.  I would think that a multi-billion dollar conglomerate would protect the rights of all its users."

And according to Port’s lawyer, Salvatore Strazzullo, Google "breached its fiduciary duty to protect her expectation of anonymity."  He also said, "I’m ready to take this all the way to the Supreme Court."

Either a win or a loss could have a significant impact on how anonymous bloggers operate.  We’ll keep an eye on the matter.

Model Liskula Cohen has a filed a lawsuit in Manhattan Supreme Court against Google in an effort to find out the identity of a blogger who called her a "skank" and an "old hag" on the blog "Skanks in NYC."

The unidentified blogger used Google’s blogging service Blogger.com to say that Cohen is the " #1 skanky superstar."

The post also says, "Yeah she may have been hot 10 years ago, but is it really attractive to watch this old hag straddle dudes in a nightclub or lounge? Desperation seeps from her soul, if she even has one."

Cohen’s attorney, Steven Wagner admitted that it will not be easy to find out the identity of the blogger, as New York courts have usually not forced bloggers to reveal themselves.

"We think we have a case," Wagner told The New York Daily News. "This is libelous, it’s defamatory and you shouldn’t just get away with this."

"I’m tall, I’m blond, I’ve been modeling for many years, and people get jealous," Cohen said. "If I had to deal with everyone who is jealous, I wouldn’t have time to do anything else."
