Today Yahoo! released what it refers to as the first performance-based online recruitment product, Yahoo! HotJobs Pay Per Candidate. The new HotJobs feature lets recruiters pay for candidates instead of just per listing.

The idea is that this will help recruiters tie their dollars directly to their results. The recruitment community will get its first look at the product at the upcoming Society for Human Resource Management conference starting June 28 in New Orleans.

"Recruiters are being asked to find top talent using fewer resources than ever, and Yahoo!’s Pay Per Candidate model gives them the tools to increase the accountability of their listings," says Yahoo! HotJobs Vice President and General Manager Chris Merritt." With recruiters facing resume overload in today’s job market, the Pay Per Candidate solution will allow them to spend their time and budget on only the best candidates."

According to Yahoo’s site, Pay Per Candidate lets users:

- Closely manage costs for your online recruiting needs.

- Cap the number of Applies per job and re-allocate unused Applies to other jobs throughout the term of your contract.

- Save time, because when you use the HotJobs application process, you no longer have to evaluate candidates that haven’t been pre-screened by your questionnaire.

Recruiters can choose one of two application methods when using Pay Per Candidate: candidates complete the entire job application on the HotJobs site, or candidate clicks-through to their company’s hire site. With the first option, recruiters have the ability to pay only for pre-screened candidates. With the second, recruiters keep candidates on their career website for the application process.

More information about Pay Per Candidate can be found on this FAQ page (pdf). What do you think about the concept?

Job search engine Simply Hired has been gaining ground with its Job-a-matic service, snagging over 600 bloggers and other site publishers since launch.

The audiences for niche blogs and vertical-interest websites arrive with a specific interest in the content to be found there. Advertising efforts have followed, in an attempt to target those audiences with relevant messages. Some blogs have been experimenting with job boards, which looks like a natural pairing. Firms who would like to recruit people with given interests should do well at finding them from among the readership of niches serving those interests.

That brings us to Job-a-matic, which comes from the job search engine Simply Hired. Job-a-matic is currently in beta, but has attracted the interest of a number of sites. A-list bloggers like Tom Foremski and Om Malik have Job-a-matic implemented for their blogs. In the world of e-business, Eric Peterson of Web Analytics Demystified has Job-a-matic in place where he charges $199 for a 30-day listing.

Peterson and Simply Hired split the cash 50-50. If he wants more job listings displayed from Simply Hired’s index, he would get 30 percent of the revenue coming from clicks on those paid listings. His paid listings appear on top of any added by the job search company. Simply Hired does provide some networking to display the paid listings blogs and sites sell to companies.

Deals with LinkedIn and MySpace show those listings across those networks, broadening their reach. Job listings deliver what people see as a valuable addition to a site, where ads could be considered distracting. The control that Job-a-matic offers could be a clincher for site publishers too, it’s far more than anyone who isn’t actively selling advertising and vetting each ad would have.

—

The LiveDeal announcement closely follows a similar one from Microsoft for its Live Expo site. Just as LiveDeal has partnered with SimplyHired for job listings, Microsoft expanded its CareerBuilder partnership the same way.

LiveDeal found out what Microsoft did – few individuals post job listings to classified sites. By signing up SimplyHired, LiveDeal will have access to five million job listings to populate its web presence.

SimplyHired said its five million listings and counting make it the world’s largest search engine for jobs. It collates job postings from a variety of large and small sites, including company websites.

In terms of traffic, LiveDeal said in a statement that August 2006 brought in more than 1.4 million unique visitors to the site. Those visitors can browse or post free ads on the classifieds site.

Rajesh Navar, an original member of eBay’s engineering team, founded LiveDeal in 2003. The company recently expanded into Canada, in partnership with a couple of other firms.

LiveDeal also works with Pets 911 to help increase pet adoptions from local shelters. Available animals for a local region may be viewed at LiveDeal’s new Adoptable Pets section of its Pets pages.
