The Kim Family Benefit Art + Craft Auction is online at eBay and will end on Sunday, January 7th. Items range from decorative pillows to wall quilts to stoneware bottles. All proceeds raised by the online auction will go to The James Kim Memorial Fund.

James Kim died of hypothermia in the frigid, snow-covered wilderness of the southern Oregon mountains. During the Thanksgiving holiday, Kim and family were stranded on an impassable road for days. Kim was found days after he had gone in search of help.

A friend of the family writes:

The auction was not set up by the Kim Family, but rather by an artist who has worked with Kati Kim in the past, Lisa Congdon, and her family.

Also, the article mentions a list of donors to the fund, including the red cross. That list, from the jamesandkati.com website, is a list of people that the family wished to thanks for their support during the search, not a list of financial donors.

Id hate for the public to be under the impression that the family had organized a benefit for themselves.

A news conference being held by authorities in Oregon at press time noted the search is continuing for James Kim. The search effort will be scaled back during evening hours due to darkness and rough terrain, which will keep rescuers out of a canyon where they suspect he may be in the area.

One official said they were trying to recover an undescribed personal item, after reports of a pair of pants likely belonging to Kim were found in the area. He had left his family with two pairs of pants, and it is thought he left these as a marker for rescuers.

Another technical search team will be available in the morning to assist with the ongoing efforts. For tonight, searchers will focus on the flat ground above the steep and rugged canyon. Search and rescue personnel feel they are close to locating Kim, and are assuming they will find him alive.

Although there is snow in the area, it is not bad, according to authorities, and should not greatly hinder their rescue efforts.

But the terrain has contributed to keep rescuers from Kim, a senior editor at tech news site CNET who has been separate from his now-rescued family for three days. Contact information for submitting any tips on his whereabouts may be found on the James and Kati website.

A helicopter hired by Kim’s relatives located Kati Kim and the couple’s two daughters. They had stayed with the family car and were spotted waving an umbrella marked with reflective tape, according to CNET.

All three received hospital treatment and were listed in good condition after their ordeal, which began on a return trip from Seattle to San Francisco over the recent Thanksgiving weekend. After advising a hotel they would be arriving late on November 25th, they failed to arrive.
