Etsy updated its Prohibited Items policy this week to ban the listing of items made from certain animals, such as those designated as threatened or endangered. This includes (but is not limited to) fur, pelts, ivory, teeth, bones and taxidermied specimens. eBay has announced it will institute a global ban on the sale of all types of ivory that will go into effect January 1, 2009.
The move comes after an investigative report from the International Fund for Animal Welfare (IFAW) that found more than 70 percent of all endangered species products listed for sale on the Internet occur in the United States.
