Bing recently put out its list of top searches for 2011. Now, they’re sharing results from a survey about what people thought about 2011, as well as the year ahead.

This is a survey of 1,000 U.S. adults. See if you can spot the silly results.

- 65 percent of 18-24 year olds were positive about 2011 and are hoping for much of the same in the New Year.

- 76 percent of 45-54 year olds said that it was a hard year and they’re hoping 2012 will be better.

- Losing weight is the top New Year’s resolution for 35% of men

- Same for 47% of women

- 32% of respondents don’t plan to make a New Year’s resolution at all

- 44% plan to spend New Year’s Eve at the beach, in the mountains, or somewhere away from the crowds.

– 34% indicated that tablets are the number one piece of technology they would like to buy in 2012

- 24% said a 3-D TV.

- 35% said they’d like to spend New Year’s Eve with Sandra Bullock when asked about which celebrity they’d likd to do so with.

- 14% said Katy Perry

- 12% said Prince Harry

- 46% of men will be guiding their New Year’s Eve fashion choices baed on “George Clooney’s classic style.”

- 33% of women will be basing theirs on Pippa Middleton.

- 26% plan to mirror their New Year’s resolution diets after Jennifer Lopez.

I’m just going to stop there.

Something tells me that this survey is not incredibly indicative of society as a whole, as much as I’d like to believe that nearly half of all men plan to dress like George Clooney on New Year’s Eve.

In stage two of George Clooney’s war on the blogosphere, the heralded producer of Academy Award smug (see South Park’s snarky send up) has launched a spam attack against online celeb gossip rag Gawker. It all began with a silly little Google Maps mashup.

Stage one of Clooney’s War was sniper shots at Arianna Huffington’s Huffington Post blog, where Huffington purportedly contrived a post authored by the actor.

Stage two is an assault on Gawker Stalker, a Google Maps mashup that lets fans post sightings of their favorite celebrities and track them on the map.

Concerned about the safety and privacy implications of celeb-tracking, Clooney, according to the New York Post, gave this directive to a team of publicists:

“There is a simple way to render these guys useless. Flood their Web site with bogus sightings. Get your clients to get 10 friends to text in fake sightings of any number of stars. A couple hundred conflicting sightings and this Web site is worthless. No need to try to create new laws to restrict free speech. Just make them useless. That’s the fun of it. And then sit back and enjoy the ride. Thanks, George.”

The directive apparently was successful. Though Gawker doesn’t seem to be intimidated, offering copies of Oceans 11 and Oceans 12 to readers who can offer photos along with Clooney sightings.

On Monday, Gawker posted some of the emails they received plotting Clooney all over the country from Portland, Oregon to New York City, down to Florida and over to Utah. He even visited this emailer’s home:

“George Clooney is here in my house as I write this. He is having Jose the gardener build a bonfire to burn any and all books that I own that do not have his name or picture in it.”

GwStalker, a Google Maps mashup that invites us “norms” to spot the famous people whoarefarmoreimportantthanweare and report them so they appear on a Google Map, is obviously the sort of thing Clooney (or John Travolta) would hate, so I somewhat believe it.

Clooney says there’s an easier way to deal with instantly posted sightings of celebrities, which provide their whereabouts to potential stalkers – flood Gawker with lies. “There is a simple way to render these guys useless,” Clooney advised in an e-mail his publicist sent out to various other show-business publicists. “Flood their Web site with bogus sightings. Get your clients to get 10 friends to text in fake sightings of any number of stars. A couple hundred conflicting sightings and this Web site is worthless. No need to try to create new laws to restrict free speech. Just make them useless. That’s the fun of it. And then sit back and enjoy the ride. Thanks, George.” Considering the proliferation of sightings on Gawker.com yesterday, we think his devil’s work is already in progress.

Gawker’s having plenty of fun with the story, offering copies of Clooney movie DVDs to the first person who spots him, and posting up his most recent locations on the blog.
