“Archeological analysis has confirmed that our Google Maps Street View team has indeed found one of history’s long lost relics: a treasure map belonging to the infamous pirate, William ‘Captain’ Kidd,” says Google Maps software engineer Tatsuo Nomura in a blog post. “The map was found on a recent expedition in the Indian Ocean, as part of a deep-water dive to expand our underwater Street View collection. Captain Kidd was rumored to have buried his treasure around the world, and tales of a long-lost treasure map have lingered for generations.”

“When Dr. Marco Meniketti, an independent archaeologist, confirmed that this was Captain Kidd’s 315 year-old map, we were very excited,” adds Nomura. “However, as seen in the video, the map contains a variety of encrypted symbols and is not readily decipherable. We need your help to decipher these symbols and find Captain Kidd’s treasures; therefore we’ve decided to digitize the map and make it accessible to everyone.”

A new Chrome Experiment lets you turn almost any site into a giant, 3D maze that you can play.

You get to control a marble and direct it around the site maze, picking up little blue crystals for points. You have a time limit, and a limited amount of lives.

What’s really cool is that you can sync your mobile device and play with your phone as a controller. You can connect Chrome on mobile to Chrome on your PC using Android 4.0 or greater or iOS 5.

Or, you can just play using your arrow keys. Either way, it’s pretty fun. Definitely more fun than actual work.

I’m not sure at exactly what point Angry Birds became a true pop culture phenomenon. It was certainly quite some time ago, but between this and the upcoming cartoon series, it looks like it won’t be going away anytime soon. Oh yeah, there’s also a movie coming out.

The game takes advantage of HTML5 features like WebSockets, Canvas and CSS3.

To play, just go to the Super Sync Sports page on your computer, choose a game and select the number of players. From there, visit g.co/super in Chrome on your smartphone or tablet, and type in the code that is displayed on the computer. This syncs the devices, and puts you in gameplay mode.

The game is available for Chrome v15 and up, and for Android 4.0+ and iOS 4.3+ devices.

Director Brett Ratner has signed on to produce a half-hour animated TV series based on the hit Facebook-based virtual farming game.

According to reports, he’s signed on to work with a Canadian production company called Six Eleven Media.

Brett Ratner is best known for directing the Rush Hour films, as well as Red Dragon, X-Men: The Last Stand. Ratner has over 30 film and TV producing credits under his belt.

“FarmVille is one of the most exciting brands out there today and its cross-platform opportunities are endless. I am thrilled to be expanding the brand with existing fans and also engaging a whole new audience,” said Ratner in a statement.

Earlier this week, Zynga posted Q4 revenues of $1.28 billion, a 12% increase year-over-year – but a quarterly loss. They also reported that Daily and Monthly active users were down since Q3, six and four percent respectively.

They also reported that they would be shuttering some of their games in order to cut costs including CityVille 2. FarmVille 2, the sequel, has been a success for Zynga however.

Today, the results are in and it’s not good news for the iron. According to your votes, it was a close race for the bottom spot between the iron, the wheelbarrow, and the boot. But in the end the iron is the piece that will be “locked up forever.”

Part of this Facebook promotion also involved the selection of a new piece to replace the old one (a robot, diamond ring, cat, helicopter, and guitar). Monopoly has revealed that the new piece will be the cat.

Well, Stratego fans: you can now play the game on your iPad (multiplayer and single player).

Keesing Games has just released the Official Stratego app for iPad. Yes, it’s just for iPad – not your iPhone or iPod touch. That’s probably for the best, considering there’s about 80 pieces on the board at the onset.

Stratego fans have been able to play on the Web and on Facebook for some time now, and the good news is that you’ll be able to cross-platform play with them on your iPad.

You’ll also have the ability to save your battle setups for quick play, and you can customize your pieces as well.

Unfortunately, I’ve not yet had the chance to play it. CNET calls the game “impressive, if imperfect” and has this to say:

“I…found Stratego to be pretty buggy, alternately crashing, producing error messages, or having trouble signing into Facebook. Plus, the AI is what I’d call overly aggressive, as it never forgets the location of your pieces (once revealed) the way a human would. I won’t say beating the AI is impossible, but at the very least the game should offer a choice of skill levels.”

But against real players, the game is much better.

The game costs $6.99, which is a little steep. But the multiplayer aspect and the ability to save loadouts, along with added achievements and customizable pieces should make it worth it for a hardcore fan of the game. Although, they may considering waiting a little bit to download the game – bugs could be fixed and that price could drop.

This advice is is paramount to public officials who already face accusations of ineffectiveness.

Temple Run 2, the sequel to the smash hit game Temple Run, is now available inside the Google Play Store.

Go ahead and download without fear. This is the legit Temple Run 2. As you may have known, eager fans of the game were fooled last week by at least two fake versions of the game. The apps were quickly deleted, but were up in the Google Play Store long enough to cause some headaches.

Temple Run 2, from Imangi Studios, arrives for Android devices exactly one week after launching on iOS. That version saw over 20 million downloads over the weekend.

Like the previously-launched iOS version that shot straight to the top of the app charts, Temple Run 2 for Android features “beautiful new graphics, gorgeous new organic environments, new obstacles, more powerups, more achievements, special powers for each character, and a bigger monkey.”
