Fox Interactive Media (FIM) announced today that MySpace and a number of the company’s other Web brands will launch a series of new, ad-supported mobile Web sites that will be free to users on mobile devices.

The MySpace Mobile Web beta will be available to users this week with a broader FIM rollout planned in the coming months.

"Accessing the Internet from a mobile phone will soon be as common as text messaging and voice calling, and it’s FIM’s goal to deliver these new free, ad-supported experiences as additional options for our users on top of our incredibly popular premium mobile services," said John Smelzer, Senior Vice President and GM of Mobile for Fox Interactive Media.

"With our well-established carrier partnerships and our more than 80 million U.S. visitors per month, Fox Interactive Media is uniquely positioned to bring both free and premium Internet experiences to users on mobile phones."

FIM has partnered with Millennial Media, an advertising network, to sell and serve mobile-based ads, which includes custom sponsorship packages within MySpace and more traditional display-based ads with other FIM properties, including IGN, FoxSports.com, AskMen and Rotten Tomatoes.com.

"The MySpace Mobile Web significantly lowers the barrier of entry for all MySpace users to access their profiles on-the-go," said Amit Kapur, VP of business development for MySpace.

"An ad-supported MySpace offering is a major component of our mobile monetization strategy and we look forward to broadly offering this industry leading roll-out to advertisers."

Fox Interactive Media (FIM), a division of Rupert Murdoch’s News Corp., has acquired interactive advertising-technology company Strategic Data Corp (SDC).

SDC’s system automatically optimizes the selection of creative for each impression to maximize profitability by combining sophisticated statistical and predictive algorithms, demographic and geographic segmentation, and performance tracking.

SDC’s technology will enable FIM to deliver highly-targeted graphical performance-based advertising on billions of Web pages viewed each day across its growing network. Fox Interactive Media, which includes MySpace, IGN, Direct2Drive, AmericanIdol.com, AskMen.com and more, is one of the most visited networks on the Internet with more than 135 million worldwide unique visitors each month and is the number one most viewed network in the U.S. with over 40 billion pages viewed each month.

SDC has specialized in developing display ad serving and yield-optimization technology that significantly increases the revenue for its clients. SDC’s clients include large ad networks and publishers.

Source: http://www.strategicdatacorp.com/

FIM also has a deal with Google to serve text ads. According to FIM, Google deal will continue and SDC acquisition is only for graphical ads.

Having campaign optimization capabilities within the company and the massive amount of data on the advertising they they will be able to built very effective and powerful ad network. As I predicted earlier this year, Optimization and Behavioral Targeting will be become very common and this deal is a step in theat direction, soon I expect to hear Behavioral Targeting related announcements from FIM.

The latest trophies from Fox Interactive Media’s (FIM) shopping spree are online karaoke joint kSolo.com and social media/topical news/ content aggregator thingie Newroo Inc. Yes, I used the word “thingie.” It’s Monday.

Fox describes Newroo as “an intelligent tool that scans the web and finds the most releveant information for users from thousands of websites, enabling them to easily create their own websites by aggregating and remixing content from third-party websites and blogs.”

See, it’s a thingie.

TechCrunch’s Michael Arrington says, “Newroo is ultimately addressing the same market as Memeorandum. However, they have a number of squidoo-like features (this is meant as a compliment) to allow anyone to create their own topic-based version of the main service.”

Newroo was founded four years ago by Brown University alumni Daniel Gould and Brian Norgard, who apparently, according to the press release, speak in unison.

“We were attracted to Fox Interactive Media because they quickly grasped our vision to provide web users with a powerful tool set to create decentralized vertical content websites around people’s passions and interests,” added Dan Gould and Brian Norgard, Co-founders of Newroo.

They forgot to mention to the 8×10 framed portraits of large piles of cash Fox showed them. Financial terms were not disclosed.

Maybe as an impulse buy, Fox picked up kSolo.com on the way to the check out. Specializing in online karaoke, kSolo lets users sing and record their karaoke performances and torture everyone they know by emailing them a digital copy. It’s just like regular drunken karaoke, except you get drunk after they sing. (Somebody get Leno on the line. That was a good one.)

“We are excited to bring both our technology and music community to the Fox Interactive Media family of web companies. We look forward to working with them to build the next generation of online music experiences for consumers,” said Nimrod Lev, Founder and CEO of kSolo.com, who then belted out a heartfelt rendition of “Wind Beneath My Wings.”

FIM’s Ross Levinsohn indicated that we’re likely to see more of the same:

“Fox Interactive Media’s acquisitions of Newroo and kSolo demonstrate our commitment to empowering users with interesting tools that they can use to further enhance their online experience and online identity,” said Levinsohn. “The acquisitions further validate FIM’s ability to unearth early stage, technically savvy web 2.0 companies led by entrepreneurial, forward-thinking management teams.”
